The School of BioSciences and Biotechnology is a school under the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The school offers various study and research programmes which enable us to participate and contribute towards the development of biosciences and biotechnology in Malaysia and the world at large.
The School of Biosciences and Biotechnology offers seven programmes leading to a Bachelor of Science. These programmes are based on basic disciplines in biology that include biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, plant science and animal science. Development in these disciplines in the last and coming decades is based on molecular knowledge, approach and technology. These disciplines are also the basis for modern biotechnology, from genetic, protein and metabolic engineering to the production of recombinant molecules and regeneration of transgenic organisms. Bioinformatics is a discipline integrating problems in molecular biology to solutions which use computational sciences and information technology.
The academic staff of the School undertake research projects that address fundamental questions in plant and animal diseases, genetics and developmental biology as well as projects that lead to the discovery of processes for production of desirable products. Research activities at the School fall into one or more of these areas: Structural Biology, Genomics, Plant Biotechnology, Developmental Biology, Signal Transduction, Biology of Natural Products as well as Fermentation and Enzyme Technology.
