THEME: INSPIRING FUTURES, NURTURING POSSIBILITIES

UKM Teaching and Learning Congress 2012 is the continuity of UKM Teaching and Learning Congress that has been organized by the Centre for Academic Advancement through the Secretariat of Action/Strategic Research for three consecutive years since 2009. It provides a platform for all the academic staff from various faculties and responsibility centres in UKM to share best practices and generate innovation and creativity, particularly in teaching and learning. This effort is coherent with the quality process cycle in UKM that emphasises on continuous improvement in the delivery system provided for its main stakeholders. In the effort to inculcate the culture of quality improvement and innovation in teaching and learning, the focus of innovation and creativity is on the following main components:

1) Effective teaching and learning

Ÿ  2) Measurement and evaluation

Ÿ  3) Continuous improvement

Ÿ  4) Futuristic innovation in teaching and learning

Ÿ  5) Curriculum development

Ÿ  6) Application of soft skills

Apart from the distribution of a certain amount of financial allocation for the lecturers to carry out innovation in teaching and learning through UKM’s action/strategic research fund grants, organization of the 2012 UKM Teaching and Learning Congress  is also a manifestation of UKM’s commitment in ensuring teaching and learning does not become a marginalised activity. In fact, it is placed in a position that is as important as other research and publication activities. In addition,   enculturation of innovation that is attempted to be nurtured through action research will produce the desired result that does not merely contribute to the key indicators of UKM as a Research University but also as a higher education provider that is especially concerned with the satisfaction of its students, simultaneously enhancing their employability in their future career.
