Clinical Pharmacy involves the practice of pharmacy and pharmaceutical care and is one of the most rapidly developing areas of the pharmacy. Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) is at the forefront in developing rigorous clinical programme designed to drive the profession of pharmacy forward in the future.

Why this programme?

We aim to produce a clinical pharmacist capable of providing specialised pharmaceutical services in both hospital and community. Our curriculums are structured to train pharmacist to be confident and knowledgeable to work together with other health care providers to optimise patient treatment outcome.

Programme Structure

The programme is conducted in two semesters (12 months). In the first semester, students will follow theoretical courses related to Clinical Pharmacy Practice, Clinical Pharmacokinetics, General Pharmacotherapeutics, and Biostatistics & Research Methodology. In the second semester, courses offered include community pharmacy, pharmacotherapeutics of specific body systems and special populations.

Students will also develop their clinical skills through clinical clerkships (compulsory and elective) throughout the year. Compulsory clerkships (Pharmacotherapy in Internal Medicine, Paediatrics and Intensive Care) will be offered in both semesters. Students are also required to choose and register one elective clerkship for each semester (Clinical Pharmacokinetics, Surgery& Parenteral Nutrition, Radiopharmacy/Nuclear Medicine/Oncology, Psychiatry, Obstetrics & Gynecology). Approximately 20% of the students’ time will be spent for research related to quality use of medicine and clinical pharmacy throughout the year.

In order to instill self-belonging to UKM and to embrace local culture, foreign students will have the opportunity to learn Malay Language as part of the programme.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy with at least a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00 from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) or any university recognized by the Senate ; OR
  • A minimum CGPA of 2.75 with working experience of at least 2 years in the related field.

Additional entry requirement for foreign candidates

  • A score of 77 for the internet-based TOEFL (equivalent to score of 547 for the paper-based TOEFL); OR
  • A band 6.0 for IELTS (minimum individual band of 5.5).
