Master of Science (Pharmaceutical Analysis)

Pharmaceutical Analysis involves using various analytical techniques to analyse pharmaceutical products. The programme incorporates three key areas in pharmaceutical analysis: separation methods, analytical techniques and quality assurance. At the end of the programme, students are expected to master various techniques used in analysing pharmaceutical products. Students will also be exposed to diverse research areas in pharmaceutical analysis.

This program aims to produce the required expertise in the field of pharmaceutical analysis in line with the development of the pharmaceutical and herbal industries in the country. The course structure is designed so as to provide graduates with specialized knowledge and hands-on experience in the area of pharmaceutical analysis and research.

Program Structure

  • This programme consits of 40 credit units that are distributed in 2 semesters (full time module) or 4 semesters (part time module).
  • Topics that will be covered in this programme include Advanced Methods in Pharmaceutical Analysis, Molecular and Atomic Spectroscopic Analysis, Statistics and Chemometrics for Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance, Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms, Research Methodology and Workplace Safety, Spectroscopic Techniques in Structure Elucidation, Advanced Separation Methods, Bioavailabitily and Bioequivalence, Pharmaceutical Bioanalysis and Pharmaceutical Quality Control.
  • Lectures, tutorials, practical, group discussion, journal critics and workshops are among the teaching and learning methods utilised to deliver the course contents.
  • Teaching materials will be uploaded online for students to have an easy access wherever they are.
  • Throughout the programme, approximately 20% of the student’s time will be spent for research related to Pharmaceutical Analysis, and project paper writing.
  • To instill self-belonging to UKM and to embrace local culture, foreign students will have the opportunity to learn Malay Language as part of the programme.

Entry Requirement

A relevant Bachelor of Science degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent from any institution of higher learning as approved by the Senate; OR

A relevant Bachelor of Science degree with a CGPA of less than 2.50 or equivalent, may be accepted, subjected to a minimum of 5 years working experience in the related field; AND

  • * Overseas candidates must meet the English language requirements set by the Faculty and University

IELTS: achieved a minimum score of Band 6.0


TOEFL: achieved a minimum score of 60


CEFR:  achieved a minimum level of B2


MUET: achieved a minimum Level 4 (Band 4)

The Faculty may grant exemption to the conditions set forth above for overseas candidates from a country that uses English as their official language or who have academic qualifications obtained from any institution of higher learning that uses English as their medium of education.
