Doctor of Philosophy

This program provide an opportunity for a multidisciplinary approach in research,
writing and publication. The program is expected to meet the needs in human capital in holistic, with knowledge and skills areas of specialization and research which in turn driving the country towards developed countries. There are four main areas of research are offered, namely economics, accounting, management and entrepreneurship and these areas subdivided into several areas of specialization.

Programme Goals

The goals of the programme are to :

  1. produe competent graduates who have a sound knowledge and skills in areas of expertise;
  2. constitute the competence and research expertise; and
  3. produce graduates with professional and ethical attitude.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the programme, graduates should be able to:

  1. synthesize knowledge and contribute to pure research that extends to frontier of knowledge in the area of expertise;
  2. adapting practical skills leading to innovative ideas to be exposed the areas of expertise;
  3. conduct research independently and adhere to legal, ethical and professional codes of practice;
  4. demonstrate leadership qualities through effective communication and collaboration among researchers and stakeholders
  5. addressing critical issues in management skills for information scientifically; and
  6. integrate information for lifelong learning.

Admission Requirements

Entry requirements are as follows:

  1. Master’s degree from UKM or any higher learning institution recognized by the UKM Senate; or
  2. Other qualification(s) equivalent to a Master’s degree or any other qualification or experience recognized by the UKM Senate; or
  3. candidates who are currently enrolled in full time master’s programme by research mode at UKM and recommended by the Graduate Studies Committee to change its status to a Doctorate program with the approval of the Dean of the Faculty; or
  4. Bachelor’s degree by obtaining excellent results from UKM or any higher learning institution recognized by the UKM Senate; and
  5. fulfils other requirements prescribed by the programme or Faculty;
  6. An international candidate from a country that are not using English as official language shall obtain a minimum TOEFL score of 550 or IELTS band 6 or other English proficiency examination recognized by the UKM Senate.

Type of Registration and Period of Study

  1. Full time studies (six (6) to twelve (12) semesters)*
  2. Part time studies (eight (8) to fourteen (14) semesters)*

*All courses are conducted on weekdays and during normal working hours .

Programme Structure

  1. Candidates must successfully complete the following components:
    Prerequisite Courses 3 courses
    Thesis
  2. The candidates must present and pass his research proposal;
  3. The candidates must present and pass his thesis oral examination; and
  4. Candidates are also required to publish at least two (2) article in an indexed journal of ISI/SCOPUS/ERA or reputable journal in area recognized by Graduate Committee of the Faculty;

Requirements for Conferment of Degree

Requirements for Conferment of Degree are as follows:

  1. Pass all the required prerequisite courses
  2. Pass the thesis and thesis oral examination;
  3. Fulfills the publication required ; and
  4. Fulfills any other conditions prescribed by the University
