MANAGERIAL COMPETENCY

The following core courses are fundamental to the understanding of business eco-system in the development of business competencies.

Business Economics

This course examines economic issues related to business organization, management and strategy. Among the topics discussed are the creation and establishment of firms business, interaction between the firm and the business environment, capital contributors, customers, and government, the role of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship, and vertically and business development crosswise.

Managerial Accounting

This course introduces the accounting methods and techniques utilized by corporations and of their importance. The students will learn to prepare reports to be used for decision making, planning and control that support the operational and management strategies. Students will also be strengthened with continuous learning and improvement to plan future operations and develop overall business strategy.

Managerial Finance

This course introduces students to the major financial concepts, principles, and analytical tools of corporate finance.  It educates students in financial statement analysis, forecasting, the risk/return trade-off, the time value of money concept, valuation, risk and return paradigm, derivatives, the cost of capital, and the capital budgeting process. Students will understand modern finance on how to utilize these concepts, principles, and techniques in the financial operations of business.

Strategic Marketing

This course will review and appraise contemporary marketing strategy, literature and practice to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of marketing and business strategy, in addition to the fundamentals in the rapidly changing digital market space. Students will also learn to develop critical reasoning and appraisal of marketing strategies and programmes; a global perspective of contemporary marketing practice; and strategic marketing decision in market targeting and positioning for competitive advantage.

Organizational and Human Resources Development

The objective of the course is to give the students an understanding of the functions, theories and concepts of organizational and human resources development. The student also will learn how to analyse projects, management issues and challenges, and application of management theories and concepts in solving business problems in organizations.

Operation Management and Decision Analysis

This course exposes students to operational decision making in inventory management, quality control, resources and production planning, short term scheduling, work design and measure. Decision analysis focuses on the various concepts and techniques of quantitative methods in solving relevant problems accordingly. The course also ensures students to fully understand the quantitative methods in decision making process.

Business Ethics and Governance

The course aims to develop an understanding of the underlying concepts of corporate governance and business ethics which are relevant to the contemporary business environment. It is designed to foster students’ understanding of the ethical influences on economic, financial, managerial and environmental aspects of business. The course equips students with an understanding of aspects relating to ethical corporate governance and exposes students to different regulatory processes essential to the principles of corporate governance in Malaysia.

Corporate Strategy

This course focuses on some of the important current issues in strategic management. It will concentrate on modern analytical approaches and on enduring successful strategic practices. It is designed with a technological and global outlook since this orientation in many ways highlights the significant emerging trends in strategic management. The course is intended to provide the students with a pragmatic approach that will guide the formulation and implementation of corporate, business, and functional strategies.
