Managing The Future: Innovation in Finance

The prevalent use of internet and social media today has generated a fast-paced and digital-inclined lifestyles amongst the people. This widespread change in consumer behavior serves as the main driver to the evolution of the banking and financial industry towards superior services.
Financial institutions need to create an innovative digital eco-system catering to the modern accelerated lifestyles of the consumers, especially the millennials. With increasingly higher mobile banking penetration, finance and banking sectors need to provide a speedy and efficient banking and financial services as well as continuously innovate to adapt to the fluidity of the current technological environment.
Additionally, the emergence of Financial Technology (Fintech) services largely driven by demands from consumers for faster, cheaper, and more efficient banking services becomes a disruptive innovation in finance and banking. Fintech is challenging the status quo of the financial industry with new business models and quickly becoming significant industry players in providing better banking access and creating more efficient payment ecosystems for commerce.
In this light, the question arises on Malaysia’s competitiveness within the region, if not globally, as far as the industry’s capacity for continuous and disruptive innovation in order to keep pace with the market demand.
