Prof. Dr. Low Soo Wah

Professor of Investment

Biography

Low Soo Wah is a Professor of Investment at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, where she teaches courses in finance in the master and doctoral programs at UKM-Graduate School of Business. She received her B.B.A. from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1991, her M.B.A. and Ph.D. from Sam M. Walton College of Business, University of Arkansas, USA in 1994 and 1998 respectively. Soo Wah’s research focus is investment with particular interest in unit trust or mutual fund performance, financial sector development and issues related to Asian financial markets. Her academic work has been published in among others, the Journal of Banking and Finance, Applied Economics, Emerging Markets Review, Managerial Finance, Global Economic Review: Perspectives on East Asian Economies and Industries, Prague Economic Papers, and Journal of Asset Management. She has also been involved in several ASEAN+3 Research Group projects funded by the Ministry of Finance, China, and the Ministry of Finance & Economy (MOFE), South Korea on topics such as private sector development, regional economic growth and financial integration; financial conglomeration in East Asia region; and, fostering assset management industry for regional capital market development. Soo Wah has also served as a finance assessor to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia (MOSTI) for project proposal evaluation. She was formerly the Managing Editor of Capital Markets Review from 2005-2012, a journal published by the Malaysian Finance Association. At the National Council of Professors, Soo Wah served as the Secretary for Economics and Management Cluster from April 2010-March 2016. She was the Head of Master’s programs at UKM-Graduate School of Business from 2011-2016. She served as the Head of Research Programme from April 2019-April 2022.
