INTRODUCTION

 

Investments in the oil and gas, petrochemical, oleochemical and chemical industries in Malaysia are expected to grow by about RM20 billion in the next 5 years. The main problem of the Malaysian industry it’s over dependence on imported technology due to a lack of research and development capability in chemical and industrial technology. In order to fulfill this need in the oil and gas, petrochemical, oleochemical and chemical industries, many more chemical and biochemical engineers having advanced knowledge and skills are required.  They should not only importing and innovating advanced chemical technologies but also able to develop their own technologies. This is in line with the National Science and Technology Policy which promotes indigenous technology development capability through human resource advanced technology development.

This program consists of core subjects in process design and optimisation, process design using latest computational techniques, advanced thermodynamic, safety and project management.  Advances in emerging technologies are offered through elective courses in advanced particle technology, bioprocess, artificial intelligence, advanced process control, process optimization, environmental engineering, engineering economics, and advanced separation technology.  Research skills are offered in two project courses. At the end of the program, the students should not only understand, but can apply and develop their own advance technologies in chemical and biochemical industries as listed above.
