RESEARCH INTEREST
| My name is Fareed Sairi and I'm currently a lecturer and researcher at the School of Biosciences and Biotechnology, Faulty of Science and Technology UKM. I'm also responsible to manage the school website along with a dedicated team that aim to spread what is happening in our school to the mass. I have a BSc. (Microbiology) from UKM and PhD. from the University of Sydney. In addition to my PhD project (Understanding the cells that synthesize hemocyanin from abalone), I'm also interested with books and subjects discussing about the history and philosophy of science, the hidden philosophy about games, animes and mangas. The experiences and memories I had for the past few years had shaped my life philosophy 'To make things possible, think the impossibilities and proved it'. I'm researching about how might we benefit from apple snail where we explore all kinds of possibilities that may turn the pest into high value end product. We're investigating the snail metabolites, bioactive peptides and gut microbiome. What is the hidden secret? the new microbes that may turn the industry and phamaceutical company upside down? or maybe suggesting how might we benefit from a pest. I'm also collaborating with other researchers in a side project where we tried to implement urban farming concept. In teaching, I'm involved with a number of courses such as Recombinant DNA Technology, Microbial Metabolism, Taxonomy and microbial Diversity, Research Methodology and the latest is Fundamental of Entrepreneurship and Innovation. I'm pleased to meet everyone in MOOC and hope some of what I'm preparing here would benefit any enthusiastic person who share my interest. |
