ABSTRACT

The electrooxidation of propionaldehyde and butyraldehyde on a gold electrode was studied by cyclic voltammetry in alkaline media. Electrooxidation of both aldehydes showed the appearance of two anodic peaks. Another oxidation peak on a newly generated electrode surface was observed after the corresponding reduction peak for both aldehydes.

Keywords: Butyraldehyde; cyclic voltammetry; gold electrode; propionaldehyde

ABSTRAK

Pengoksidaan elektrokimia propionaldehid dan butiraldehid pada elektrod kepingan emas dikaji melalui kitar voltamogram dalam larutan elektrolit alkali. Pengoksidaan elektrokimia kedua-dua aldehid menunjukkan kehadiran dua puncak anodik. Puncak anodik kedua hadir semasa imbasan keupayaan negatif pada permukaan elektrod terjana semula selepas tindak balas penurunan berlaku.

Kata kunci: Butiraldehid; elektrod emas; voltametri berkitar; propionaldehid
