ABSTRACT

The study area is a former earth quarry located in Kampung Binjai, Mukim Hutan Aji, Perlis. In the studied area there are two major rock formations, the upper part of Setul Formation which consist of bright to dark grey, hard and fossiliferous limestone and the lower part of Kubang Pasu Formation that is characterized by thickly bedded sandstone and mudstone. Detailed geological mapping has been conducted in this area to produce lithology and structural maps. A total of 14 right lateral fault, 19 left lateral fault, 32 normal fault and 26 reverse fault readings were analyzed using stereonet to see the fault density and the stress system acting in the study area. The result of structural analysis showed that there were two major stress systems which had acted in the study area, the ST 1 stress acting with the main stresses (σ1) from the northeast - southwest direction and the ST 2 stress system acted with the main stresses (σ1) from the northwest - southeast.
