A Comparative Study of American Contaiment Policy between Eastern Europe and Asia

This objective of this study is to document the American Contaiment Policy as applied in Eastern Europe and three regions in Asia (East Asia, Southeast Asia and South Asia). The second objective is to analyze the strategic defense/ foreign policy network in an effort to determine its effectiveness in the containment process. The rationale of the study is based on the fact that American contaiment policy during the cold war period could be considered a success in minimizing the spread of communism in Asia. However, the lack of attention to Eastern Europe has allowed for the increased in Russian influence over many peripheral states surrounding Russia. Based on the observation, the American policymakers built a strategic network to better understand the regions within Asia. The policy which has the dimensions of ideology and political movement is operationalized by different actors in the various region. The research will emphasize on data collected in archives and narratives from lead interviews with scholars and practitioners.
