KITA-UKM Study on B40 Presented to ICU and Key Agencies, 7 March 2018

The Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) hosted a special discussion on coordination of neighbourhood development programs among the urban Bottom 40 (B40) on Wednesday March 7, 2018 at Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Director General Datuk Zolkopli Bin Dahalan.

KITA Principal Research Fellow Datuk Dr Denison Jayasooria was invited to share the findings of the 25 neighbourhoods noting the multi-dimensional nature of local problems local issues identified such as safety & security concerns including drug & alcohol related issues, infrastructure issues, social issues, urban poverty and issues pertaining to local governance. All these require inter-agency cooperation to facilitate problem solving at the grassroots.

Seven agencies participated with representative from Ministry of Housing & Local government, Ministry of Education, Police, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Registration department, Welfare department and the Anti-drug agency.

ICU agreed to host a discussion in Kuala Lumpur based on the findings of issues in six neighbourhoods and similar meetings among the agencies will be hosted throughout the country to ensure identified programs will. This is positive outcome of the find study undertaken resulting in solutions driven interventions through inter agency cooperation.

Others present and who also presented a paper were representative of the Department of National Unity and Integration led by the Deputy Director General Tuan Haji Abdul Karim bin Abu Seman. Mr James Raj assisted with the power point presentation.
