Sinopsis Kursus | Course Synopsis

Kursus ini bertujuan untuk membawa bersama pelajar dan sarjana daripada pelbagai disiplin yang mempunyai minat penyelidikan dalam kajian etnik untuk membincang isu-isu teoretikal dan metodologikal mengenai isu-isu etnik di Malaysia dan luar negara. Pelajar akan dilatih untuk mengasaskan pemikiran dan penghujahan masing-masing dalam rangka keterampilan yang ada di Institut Kajian Etnik (KITA), iaitu analisis akademik dan advokasi awam. Bentuk wacana yang bakal dikendalikan mengambil bentuk perbincangan meja bulat, dialog, seminar dan perbincangan kumpulan terfokus. Pelajar akan memegang peranan utama dalam wacana ini daripada segi mengurus, memandu, dan menggerakkan perjalanan perbincangan. Pendedahan dan pengalaman berwacana secara langsung akan membantu pelajar membina kemahiran-kemahiran generik seperti berfikir secara kritis, berkomunikasi secara jelas, bertanya soalan secara tepat dan bersesuaian, keberanian memberi pandangan dan menyokong pandangan dengan asas bukti, kesediaan menerima kelainan pandangan, serta kemahiran merakamkan idea dan pemikiran dalam bentuk bertulis yang analitikal, jitu dan berasas, mengikut prinsip penulisan ilmiah.

The course aims to bring together students and scholars from various disciplines who have an interest in research in ethnic studies to discuss theoretical and methodological issues concerning ethnic issues in Malaysia and abroad. Students will be trained to establish their critical thoughts and debate in the framework of existing skills in the Institute of Ethnic Studies (KITA), i.e. through academic analysis and public advocacy. The forms of discourse include roundtable discussions, dialogues, seminars and focus group discussions. Students will play a major role in managing, facilitating and leading the discussions. The exposure and experience of academic discourse will inevitably assist students to develop the generic skills of thinking critically, communicating clearly, asking pertinent questions, having the courage to provide factual insights and support, being willing to accept different viewpoints, as well as demonstrating skills to express ideas and thoughts in analytical, accurate and substantiated writing, according to the principles of academic and scholarly writing.

 
Hasil Pembelajaran Kursus | Course Learning Outcome

Di akhir kursus, pelajar mampu:

  1. Menunjukkan kefahaman tentang pendekatan kajian etnik;
  2. Berkebolehan menggunakan pendekatan kajian etnik dalam situasi berbeza;
  3. Berupaya menyampai dan mempertahankan hujah mengikut rangka pendekatan kajian etnik;
  4. Berupaya mencari bahan, membaca, berfikir dan berwacana mengenai hal ehwal etnik;
  5. Berkebolehan menghasilkan dan membentangkan satu laporan analisis akademik wacana kajian etnik yang berlaku dalam atau luar negara.

At the end of the course, students are able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of approaches in ethnic studies;
  2. Apply ethnic studies approaches in different situations;
  3. Present and defend argument based on the framework and approaches of ethnic studies;
  4. Find academic and research materials, read, think and engage in critical discourse pertaining to ethnic-related issues;
  5. Produce and present analytical academic reports on the discourse of ethnic studies occurring within the country or abroad.
