Introduction

 
International Symposium on Harmonising Environmental Considerations with Sustainable Development Potential of River Basins aims to identify issues and challenges related to water governance, environmental and sustainable development potential of river basin from the perspectives of various stakeholders. This symposium is also prioritise issues for possible adaptation and business opportunities for water sector to integrate into an expanding environmental services industry and in so doing support the expansion of a truly sustainable and diversified water business environment. This concept is based on improving water-based businesses by establishing enduring business partnerships that connect water managers with environmental services, as well as boost the multifunctional productivity of water. This symposium also act as a platform introducing HELP program and sharing ideas between the HELP Basins in the world about the implementation of existing challenges, knowledge and activities within the local condition.

The symposium will be held on 3-days session which international, national and local participants will learn and share their experience and information on issues faced in their river basin. The system harmonisation concept can be defined as “a strategy to improve cross-organisational communication and system-wide management to improve production and environmental outcomes in a whole of catchment context.”


Objectives

 
The aim of the symposium is to bring together International expert from HELP Basin in the world to share their experiences and lessons learned with local stakeholders in Langat River Basin, especially on how to move forward from evolving river basin to become Operational or Demonstration River Basin under HELP.

The specific objectives of the symposium are:

  • Identify issues and challenges related to water governance, environmental and sustainable development potential of river basin from the perspectives of various stakeholders.
  • Prioritise issues for possible adaptation and business opportunities for water sector to integrate into an expanding environmental services industry.
  • Provide a platform introducing HELP program and sharing ideas between the HELP Basins in the world about the implementation of existing challenges, knowledge and activities within the local condition. [top]
