The ‘First Malaysia-UNESCO Cooperation Programme (MUCP) Expert Synthesis Meeting’
Pertemuan Sintesis Pakar Kerjasama Malaysia-UNESCO (MUCP) yang pertama dianjurkan oleh Institut Alam Sekitar dan Pembangunan (LESTARI), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) di Frangipani Langkawi Resort and Spa, Langkawi, Malaysia pada 14-16 Mei 2019. Tujuan mesyuarat sintesis pakar ini diadakan adalah untuk menyokong dan mewajarkan MUCP melalui Malaysia Fund-in-Trust (MFIT) untuk mengukuhkan kerjasama Selatan-Selatan. Kerjasama Selatan-Selatan untuk pembangunan lestari telah ditekankan melalui 29 projek penyelidikan yang ditawarkan oleh Pejabat UNESCO Jakarta ke beberapa negara berdasarkan pelbagai bidang tematik iaitu pendidikan, sains, budaya, komunikasi, informasi dan sebagainya. Prof. Dr. Shahbaz Khan, Pengarah, Biro Sains Serantau UNESCO untuk Asia dan Pasifik, Jakarta, Indonesia; dan Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazlin Mokhtar, Pengarah, LESTARI, UKM sebagai penasihat mesyuarat sintesis ini menjangkakan garis panduan masa depan untuk projek MUCP kerana 29 projek ini telah disokong oleh MFIT bersama dengan sokongan teknikal Kerajaan Malaysia di Asia dan Pasifik. Kira-kira 32 orang pakar kebangsaan dan antarabangsa dalam bidang yang berbeza menghadiri mesyuarat ini untuk mencadangkan jalan cerita yang bermakna mengenai arah masa depan hasil projek ini akan berkembang walaupun selepas tamat sokongan MIFT sambil membuat perbandingan terhadap peringkat awal dan tahap semasa. Kehadiran Encik Mohammad Sanusi Abdul Karim, Setiausaha Agung Suruhanjaya Kebangsaan Malaysia untuk UNESCO bersama pegawai kerajaan lain sangat penting untuk meneruskan projek UNESCO melalui MIFT. Oleh itu, Prof. Dato ‘Mazlin, LESTARI, UKM; Prof. Dr. Soontak Lee, Universiti Yeungnam dan Adj. Prof Jeffrey Keith Camkin, University of Western Australia telah ditawarkan untuk menghasilkan laporan sintesis mesyuarat ini oleh Pejabat UNESCO Jakarta untuk mewajarkan hasil keputusan MUCP untuk diteruskan.

The ‘First Malaysia-UNESCO Cooperation Programme (MUCP) Expert Synthesis Meeting’ is hosted by the Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) at the Frangipani Langkawi Resort and Spa, Langkawi, Malaysia on 14-16 May 2019. The aim of this expert synthesis meeting is to support and justify the MUCP via the Malaysia Funds-in-Trust (MFIT) for the stronger South-South cooperation. The South-South Cooperation for sustainable development has been emphasized through 29 research projects offered by UNESCO Jakarta Office to several countries based on different thematic areas i.e. education, science, culture, communication, information and as such. Prof. Dr. Shahbaz Khan, Director, UNESCO Regional Science Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, Jakarta, Indonesia; and Prof. Dato´ Dr. Mazlin Bin Mokhtar, Director, LESTARI, UKM being the advisors of this synthesis meeting are expecting a future guideline for the MUCP projects because these 29 projects have been supported by the MFIT along with the technical support of the Malaysian government in Asia and the Pacific. About 32 national and international experts of different disciplines are attending in this meeting to recommend a meaningful storyline of the future direction of these project’s outcome to be flourished even after the support of MIFT ended while comparing the baseline and current stages. The presence of Mr. Mohammad Sanusi Bin Abdul Karim, Secretary-General of the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO along with other government officials are very significant to continue the UNESCO project via MIFT. Therefore, Prof. Dato´ Mazlin, LESTARI, UKM; Prof. Dr. Soontak Lee, Yeungnam University and Adj. Prof. Jeffrey Keith Camkin, University of Western Australia have been offered to produce the synthesis report of this meeting by the UNESCO Jakarta Office to justify the MUCP outcomes in order to be continued.
