International Conference SCCP2017 – Gain Insights from Experts

5th-7th Oct 2017, KUALA LUMPUR – International Conference on Sustainable Cities, Communities and Partnerships for Sustainable Development Goals (SCCP2017) has successfully took place at Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat, Kuala Lumpur. The conference was held as a collaboration platform to all parties which discuss on the local and global issues, finding the solutions and grow the opportunities to ensure the sustainable cities is pivotal to overall success in achieving the aspiration of SDGs. SCCP 2017 has been attended by practitioners, academicians, communities and school children’s, where the process of dissemination of knowledge, experience and skill happens.

The conference was launched by Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Shukry Mohd Salleh, (Chairman of The Yayasan Bank Rakyat). This was followed with keynotes presented by Prof. Dr. Terry McGee (University of British Columbia, Canada) and Prof Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Dzulkifli Abdul Razak (Chairman USIM Board of Directors). In the afternoon Prof. Emeritus Dr. Mohd Nordin Hj. Hasan (LESTARI UKM & Chair Regional Center for Future Earth in Asia) and Mdm. Norliza Hashim (Secretary General Eastern Regional Organization for Planning & Human Settlements [EAROPH] & CEO of Urbanice Malaysia) present their keynote address. It was continued on the second day with a keynote speeches from our invited speakers, Prof. Dr. Roderick Lawrence (University of Geneva, Switzerland) and Ybhg. Dato’ Maimunah Mohd Sharif (Mayor of Pulau Pinang City Council).

Twelve symposiums and three open sessions have provides the participants with broad spectrum of urban and communities issues to discuss. At the end of the second day, the Forum chaired by Prof. Emeritus Dr. Mohd Nordin Hj. Hasan wrap up the conference. The conference also organized an exhibitions which participated by local governments, government agencies, communities and universities. The exhibition was conducted throughout the conference from 5 to 7 October 2017.

Participants who signed up for excursion organized by Perbadanan Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur City Council have an exciting tours and enjoy the activities prepared. The last day of the conference, on the 7th of October 2017, the session with school children provide a platform between practitioners with school children. Their participations in the conference shows that the young generation do have a role to play in achieving Sustainable Development. This successful SCCP2017 was ended with a fascinating Angklung performance by the school children trained by the LA21 DBKL unit.
