Abstract
The
activities of 226Ra in water column and sediment along Sungai Langat
and Sungai were obtained at thirteen stations. The highest activities of 226Ra
in water were represented by station located at Kajang and Teras Jernang. Whereas, the lowest activities of 226Ra
were shown by station located at Kampung Rincing Hilir and Kampung Sungai Buah.
The activities of 226Ra recorded during first and second samplings
were ranging from 0.033 Bq/L to 0.390 Bq/L and 0.051 to 0.260 Bq/L,
respectively. Then the highest activities in sediment during first and second
samplings were recorded at Kampung Sungai Lalang and Kampung Rincing Hilir
stations, and the lowest activities were represented by station located at
Kampung Bahagia. The activities of 226Ra in sediments are ranged
from 28.02 Bq/kg to 247.16 Bq/kg and 38.19 Bq/kg to 196.77 Bq/kg, respectively,
for first and second sampling. Generally,
their activities in Sungai Langat and Sungai Semenyih sediments were not
increases with increasing water flow from down- stream to upper-stream. This
indicated that the sources of 226Ra in river waters and sediments at
the study area are not related to the river water flow.
