The Malaysian Cohort: A Resource For The Precision Medicine Initiative

On 31st of May 2021, Prof. Datuk A Rahman A Jamal had given a conference entitled ‘The Malaysian Cohort: A resource for the Precision Medicine Initiative’. During this session, he shares the importance of cohort studies and biobanks. He then proceeds to explain the definition, purpose, and initiatives of Precision Medicine.

 Prof. Datuk A Rahman A Jamal also shares several research projects from Cohort that are relevant to precision medicine. Some of the projects are ‘GWAS for Type 2 Diabetes on 6000 TMC participants’, ‘SNPs in 7 loci for Type 2 diabetes in the Malaysian population’, ‘Genome-wide SNPs array can identify those at risk for obesity, ‘Identifying mutations in those with Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH)’ and ‘Using a gene panel to predict sudden cardiac arrest. Many key ongoing projects also can be applied to precision medicine.
