Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Hamdi the New Vice Chancellor of UKM

BANGI, January 3, 2019 – Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor officially commenced as a new Vice Chancellor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) starting from 1st January 2019.

He, who is the 11th Vice Chancellor of UKM, has received a document from the former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Noor Azlan Ghazali, who has an expiry of appointment on 31 December 2018.

In the recently held Vice Chancellor’s Duty Handover Ceremony, Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Hamdi said the main agenda is in terms of income generation because of if we have no source of income, much planning cannot be done.

“Apart from the income generation, I will also give full commitment to the strengthening of Bahasa Melayu because I believe the heart of UKM is Bahasa Melayu, as well as strengthening the research agenda of the university which is the core of our work on this day,” he said when delivering his speech at the UKM Vice Chancellor Duty Handover Ceremony, recently.

He said he believed that with the cooperation given by various parties would turn UKM into a great university.

Meanwhile, the former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Noor Azlan hopes Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Hamdi can ensure that UKM will continue to be extraordinary and a great university.

UKM Board of Directors, Tan Sri Wahid Omar thanked Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Noor Azlan for having served successfully for five years in UKM.

“I hope that all of us will be able to give the best support and cooperation to the new Vice Chancellor as UKM’s excellence is for the whole UKM,” he added.

Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Hamdi served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs) at the University of Malaya from 2011 to 2014.
