UKM is Best University Volunteer for Jom Bekpes 2016

BANGI, 18 February 2017 – Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) was announced as the Best Volunteer (University category) for the Jom Bekpes Programme 2016, setting aside 25 public universities and private universities, recently.

Jom Bekpes is a programme, organised by the Onn Jaafar Institute (IOJ), which sees volunteers distributing breakfast for the homeless around Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur.

IOJ Chief Executive Officer, Charles Mohan said the programme is an initiative undertaken to inject mindfulness and linking disadvantaged community with students of UKM.

“Community activities such as Jom Bekpes is capable in shaping the personality and building students’ interpersonal skills during their studies at the university,” he said.

Almost 300 UKM students from Tun Syed Nasir Residential College, Faculty of Health Sciences, Rahim Kajai Residential College and Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities participate as volunteers on Jom Bekpes last year.

The trophy was presented by Charles Mohan, at a ceremony in UKM, recently.
