FST Students Launched Fund To Help Haiyan Victims

BANGI, Nov 14, 2013 – Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) students of The National University of Malaysia (UKM) have launched a humanitarian tragedy fund in aid of victims  of super typhoon Haiyan.

The fund’s spokesman Nurul Syifa’ Mohd Shukri said they were deeply touched by the calamity and offered to contribute in their small way to help alleviate hardships suffered by those devastated by the typhoon.

Those who work and study at UKM have been encouraged to chip in and contribute.

FST Dean Prof Dr Ahmad Shahrim hopes effort by the FST students will help promote the spirit of solidarity among neighbouring countries.

FST, he said, is always sensitive to the needs of victims of  natural calamities inside and outside the country.

Also present at the ceremony were Head of UKM’s Research Centre for Tropical Climate Change System (IKLIM) Associate Prof Dr Mohd Talib Latif and IKLIM Fellow Prof Dr Fredolin Tangang.
