UKM helps to handle the phenomenon of Liberal Islam

BANGI, 18 Feb. – The National Seminar on Issues of Islamic Liberal organized by researchers from the Islamic Faculty UKM together with the Selangor Department of Islamic Affairs  (JAIS) is an initiative and big contribution by UKM  to help  handle  the phenomenon  of Liberal Islam especially in Selangor.

 


This was stressed by the Chief Assistant Director Ahmad Zaki Arshad, representing the director of JAIS when officiating at the one day seminar here yesterday.

 


The seminar was organized to gear  interested parties including academicians and non government organisations in tackling the phenomena of Liberal Islam in Malaysia especially in Selangor.


The seminar was held at the senate room, UKM and attended by 200 participants. A total of 15 research papers by academicians, researchers and NGOs were presented.


Ahmad Zaki said Islam liberal  is a worrying phenomenon which can effects the religious belief of Muslims


He also told the seminar that the Selangor Syariah Courts now have about 120 cases of people who wants to leave Islam.


Ahmad Zaki hoped the seminar such as this  could be held in other areas in order to help strengthened the faith of Muslims.


The Vice Chancellor of UKM in her speech read by Prof. Madya Dr. Muhd Najib Abdul Kadir, Head of Al-Quran and Al-Sunah,Islamic Faculty, said it was UKM’s responsibility to give insight into certain issues faced by the society in a profesional manner.
