UKM Volleyball Team Won the Datuk Bandar Shah Alam Championship

BANGI, 28 Feb, 2011 – Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) volleyball team emerged as the champion after beating four other elite teams in the Datuk Bandar Shah Alam Volleyball Championship 2011 which was held over the weekend.

The championship is a prestigious one as only those selected can participate. Selections of participating teams were based on their performances.

The UKM volleyball team was selected based on its excellent record at the national level. The team have won the MASUM Volleyball Championships for five years in a row since 2006.

Four other elite teams that participated in the Championship held in Shah Alam were the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) team, Segamat VC, Bukit Jalil Sports School and SUKMA Selangor. The UKM team was unbeaten.

The MBSA team emerged as the runner-up while the third place was won by Segamat VC.

As champions, the UKM team walked away with a trophy and a cash prize of RM 5000.

The team comprised 12 students supervised by Major Mohd Jasmy Abd Rahman as team manager and coached by Encik Zulyadi Zakaria.

The 12 students are Ng Kai Guan, Tan Song Wee, Mohamad Fitri Salim, Puvaneesvaran A/L Kanniapan, Muhammad Azli Zambri, Luk Teck Liong, Sim Hui Peng, Su Sieng Lee, Kiew Chiong Ung, Cheoh Jia Ming, Shahril Nizam Abdul Samad and Mohd Hafizan Hashim.

Major Jasmy said that all the UKM players were highly committed in the championship.
