131 International Students Are Among 286 New UKM PhDs Conferred at Varsity’s 39th Convocation

BANGI, 24 Sept., 2011 –  Some 131 international students were among 286 New UKM PhDs conferred at the University’s 39th Convocation of The National University of Malaysia (UKM) today. This PhD figure is a new record for UKM.

The graduands received their doctorates from the UKM Chancellor, Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir.

Indonesia contributed the largest number with 48 PhDs. The rest are Iran (18), Jordan (17), Yaman (16), Iraq (13), Bangladesh (5), Algeria (3), Pakistan (2), Sudan (2), China (1), Ghana (1), Libya (1), Mesir (1), Nigeria (1) and Sri Lanka (1).

They graduated from various faculties with most of the students from Iran and Iraq graduating in engineering, electronics and nanotechnology.

Fifteen of the PhD recipients are UKM academic staff from various faculties.
