UKM Team Won the Inter Medical Faculties Golf Championship

BANGI, 22 Oct. 2011 – The team from UKM emerged champion in the Inter Medical Faculties Golf Championship held at the Danau Golf Club here today. The team from the International Islamic University (IIUM) was second.

The charity golf event, the fifth since its inception, was organised for the first time by UKM for the Dato’ Mahmud Challenge Trophy and to collect donations for the UKM Medical Centre (UKMMC) Patients Fund. A sum of RM67,000 was collected at the championship for the fund set up since 2000 to help poor patients receive treatment at the Centre.

UKM Pro Chancellor, Tengku Panglima Besar Kedah, Dato’ Seri Tunku Puteri Intan Shafinaz binti Sultan Haji Abdul Halij Mu’adzam Shah graced the occasion by taking part in the VIP category.

A total of 93 participants from the Faculties of Medicine of UKM, UMS, University Perak Medical College and IIUM and individual participants from Ampang Hospital, Melaka Hospital, Kuala Lumpur Hospital and Hospital  Tuanku Mizan also took part.

It gained the support of a number of corporate bodies which sponsored the championship including UKM Kesihatan Sdn. Bhd., Pharmaniaga, Primabumi, HSL Hospital/Tonik Asia Group, M.S. Ally PharmaSdn. Bhd., Celcom, Anugerah Saintifik, Arasy Medicare System, Ilham Medicare, B Braun, Bank Rakyat and Alliance University College of Medical Sciences (AUCMS).

The championship was divided into three categories: individuals (university) which was won by Encik Che Mat Che Ismail from IIUM and Dr Junaini Kasian also from IIUM, second with En Azmy Sulaiman from UKM third.

 
The VIP category was won by Cik Aida Fahani Dato’ Othman with Dato’ Dr Harun Ahmad and Dato’ Ahmad Zailan the runners-up with Tunku Puteri Intan Shafinaz in fourth place and Dato’ Peppe Foo fifth.

The Corporate Guests category was won by En Mohd Zaini Nordin, with En Abu Bakar Othman and Dr Jasmit Singh emerging as the runners-up. The best player of the tournament was won by En Yusof Jamaldeen from Kuala LumpurHospital. 
The sixth championship will be hosted by IIUM.
