Rhinology is a deverse and expanding speciality, embracing basic science and many discipline of medicine and surgery. In the past 20 years there has been a significant transformation from external and headlight sinus surgery to endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS). ESS is indicated when optimal medical therapy fails. ESS is a modern method of performing sinus surgery, spurred on by the development of the Hopkins rod telescope and its capacity to show clear and magnified views inside the nose and sinuses. ESS is now accepted as the new surgical management of choice for chronic rhinosinusitis. Rhinosinusitis is part of one airway disease which involves the inflammation of the nasal cavity and at least one of the paranasal sinuses. It is a common disorder affecting the quality of life in adult and pediatric populations. In addition, as our knowledge of the anatomy of sinuses has improved, other minimally invasive surgeries such as endoscopy lacrimal surgery, orbital decompression extending to the cranial base and pituitary fossa have developed. Further development in instrumentation has led to acceptance of endoscopic management of beningn endonasal tumors and more recently literature data on endoscopic management of malignant tumors of the nose and sinuses. Thid book can provide a reference atlas for otorhinolaryngologist, neurosurgeons, facial plastic surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, ophthalmic surgeons and residents who perform nasal endoscopy and surgery.
