PROF. IR. DR. WAN RAMLI WAN DAUD:RECIPIENT OF

 ‘THE AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE DRYING COMMUNITY 2009

   
   

Prof. Ir. Dr. Hj. Wan Ramli bin Wan Daud is the founder and Director of the Institute of Cell Fuel, Universiti kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), which was established in 2007. Prof. Ir. Dr. Hj. Wan Ramli is a resident Chemical Engineering Professor at the De[artment of Chemical and Process Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, UKM since the year 1996. Recently, he as been awarded with Outstanding Contribution to the Drying Community 2009 Award at the 6th Asia-Pacific Drying Conference, on the 19 to 21 October 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand for his contributions towards the fields of dyring technology.

Born on 27 December 1955 in Kg. Tanah Liat, Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang, Wan Ramli was conferred his first degree in BEng (First Class) by Monash University, Victoria, Australia in 1978 and later his PhD doctorate from University of Cambridge, United Kingdom in 1984 in the field of Chemical Engineering.

Prof. Wan Ramli is a professional engineer in the field of chemical engineering, registered with Malaysian Board of Engineers since the year 1996, a Chartered EngineerwithEngineering Council UKas well as The Institution of Chemical Engineers. Other than that, he is the Institution of Chemical Engineers Fellow, a corporate member of Malaysian Engineers Institution and a member of Malaysian Islamic Science Academy.

Wan Ramli joined UKM in 1979 as a tutor and was later promoted to lecturer in 1984. He was appointed as the Head of Department, Department of Chemical and Process, Faculty of Engineering, UKM (1985-1988) and received his Acssociate Professorship in 1989. Later, he was selected as the Deputy Dean in 1990-1993 and another appointment of the same position in 1995-1998. In the year 1996, he obtained his Professorship as a Chemical Engineering Professor at the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.
                                                                                                                   
Prof. Wan Ramli was also a member of UKM Senate (1998-2004), Coordinator for Chemistry Engineering Postgraduate Studies  at the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, UKM, Chief Editor for Jurnal Kejuruteraan – Engineering Journal (1999–2004) and Jurnal Jurutera Kimia Malaysia – Malaysian Chemical Engineer Journal (2000–2006), Chairman of National Subcommittee on Fuel Cells  at the Ministry of Power, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) and a member of National Steering Committee on Hydrogen, Solar Energy and Fuel Cells at KeTTHA from 2003-2005 as well as the Coordinator for Chemistry Engineering Postgraduate Studies (2000-2006).

Upon his excellent contributions and achievements, he has been appointed as the member of International Advisory Committee of the World Congress of Particle Technology (2002), International Advisory Committee of the Asian-Pacific Drying Conference (1999 to present), International Advisory Committee of the International Workshop and Symposium on Industrial Drying(2004 to present), International Advisory Committee of the Regional Symposium on Membrane Science & Technology (2004 to present), International Organising Committee of the Asian Particle Technology Symposium (2001 to present) and also International Advisory Committee of the Regional Symposium of Chemical Engineering (2002 to present).

Aside from the listed committees above, Prof. Wan Ramli also collaborates with associates from McGill University, Canada,University of Leeds, United Kingdom, University of New South Wales, Australia, Bogor Agricultural University, Indonesia, National University of Singapore, Gunma University Japan, Imperial College London, University of Birmingham, United KingdomandUniversity of Witswatersrand, Afrika Selatan.

Up to present, Prof. Dr. Wan Ramli has published 126 articles in various international journals, two books and a chapter in a book. Aside from that, he has also presented his works in ten international plenary sessions, 7 international invitation speeches and 9 national plenary sessions, 236 entries in international conferences and 168 papers in conferences in the local arena.

Among the achievements and awards achieved by Prof. Wan Ramli are gold medal and Jury Award in the 29th Salon International Des Inventions Geneve (2001), a gold medal and a silver medal in the  33rd Salon International Des Inventions Geneve (2005), a silver medal for his invention SERINDIT II: Zero Emission Vehicle in the 34th Salon International Des Inventions Geneve (2006), winner for the Special Submission Category in the 8th ASEAN Best Practices for Energy Efficient Buildings Competition, won two gold medals for the invention LESTARI 5000™ Fuel Cell Power Generator and Solar Wind Hybrid Hydrogen Energy Production System For Remote Islands during the World Exhibition of Innovation, Research And New Technologies, Brussels, Belgium, (2007) and a gold medal in  ITEX 2009.
