Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials
This is a niche area that represents a cutting edge research in UKM lead by the Institute of Microelectronics and Nanoengineering (IMEN) as well as researchers from the Faculties of Science and Engineering and the Built Environment. IMEN has formed strategic research collaboration with leading edge partners from South Korea and leads in MEMS and nanoelectronics, photonics, semiconductors and nano engineering.
In Advanced Materials, UKM researchers has been winning awards in both biopolymers and composites, biodegradable polymers, wood-polymer composites, biosurfactants, magnetic materials, bioceramics and bone replacements, novel natural fibre composites in automotive and structural applications as well as energy materials and light alloy composites. In downstream processing, advanced manufacturing methods such as lean and green manufacturing, concurrent engineering and life cycle assessment take prominence. In Space Science, UKM researchers lead in telecommunications and satellite engineering.
