Profile

Geopark Research Centre (PPG) formerly known as Langkawi Research Centre (PPL) is located on the Campus of Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark. PPG is a focused centre in the Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI) UKM, with roles to carry out research and academic services related to integrated heritage conservation and development of geoparks.

To be a centre of excellence for research and development of natural resources, culture and local traditions and referral centre for regional sustainable development.

Excel in research and service in the development of natural resources and culture for local communities

 

  • Roles

Conduct research on sustainability science and provide expert services related to integrated heritage conservation and development of geoparks:
» Conduct research and consultation on regional sustainable development and knowledge tourism
» Influence local and national policies in issues of integrated approach and governance
» Pioneer the idea of geopark science as a model of regional sustainable development
» Strengthen graduate studies and capacity building of various stakeholders
