Perincian Kursus

SKAG1023 – Rantau Asia Pasifik

This course discusses the rise of the Asia Pacific region within the context of its potentials as the main contributor to the prospects of a ‘Pacific Century’.

SKAG1043 – Biogeografi

This course discusses the dicipline of biogeography i.e. phytogeography/ zoogeography and the role of edaphic factors in plants succession and distribution. The relationships between each component that will be discussed involves the physical and chemical aspects of soil in addition to explanations on plants and soils taxonomies.

SKAG1233 – Manusia dan Cabaran Global

This course aims to impart an understanding of the basic concepts and theories of human geography to the students. It also discusses the environmental transformation, impacts and adaptations to global change.

 SKAG2033 – Integrasi RS, GIS dan GPS

This course is divided into three parts: i.e. remote sensing (RS), geographical information system (GIS) and global positioning system (GPS). This course covers theory and concept of RS, GIS and GPS as a technology in digital mapping with a focus on spatial mapping, spatial data management.

SKAG2053 – Penduduk dan Perancangan Sumber Manusia

This course focuses on two inter related parts. The first part will expose students to the foundations in population research and its analysis which comprises the static and dynamic aspects of the population such as population distribution, growth and mobility. The second part of the course will discuss aspect of population within the context of social planning and human resources.

SKAG2083 – Penilaian dan Pengurusan Sumber Alam

This course explains the relationship between the ecosystem and the various renewable and nonrenewable natural resources of the world. Special emphasis will be given on how man appraises and manages some selected natural resources within the context of sustainable development.

SKAG2093 – Kajian Atmosfera

This course attempts to impart an understanding and knowledge to the students with regard the theories, concepts and processes that govern the discipline of climatology. Students will also be exposed to current issues on global climate change, global warming and its impacts on the climate in Malaysia.

 

SKAG2123 – Pengantar Kajian Bandar

This course is a systematic study of contemporary urban spatial patterns with special reference to developing countries particularly Malaysia. Among important topics that will be discussed are the urbanisation process in the era of globalisation, urban spatial organisation and urban function in national development.

SKAG2133 – Geomorfologi Tropika

This course focuses on geomorphologic processes and factors that form the tropical landforms. Besides the theories and concepts of tropical geomorphology, students will also be exposed to the techniques of measuring and analyzing erosion and deposition.

SKAG2163 – Penilaian Impak Alam Sekitar

This course imparts knowledge on the basic principles of impact assessment, its procedures with specific focus to the methodology practised in Malaysia. Assessment procedures include physical, bilogical and socio-economic components. Assessment process include preliminary assessment, impact prediction and quantification, identification of mitigating measures and impact reduction, monitoring programme and post-auditing.

SKAG2183 – Asas Ekologi

This is an introduction course in ecology for students who would like to further their scope of studies in environmental management as well as biogeography. This course illustrates how the discipline of ecology started and developed through the pioneers in this field. The understanding of the ecosystem, its characteristics, components of ecosystem, biogeochemical cycles and the factors that exist in the ecosystem as well as problems and mitigation of environmental issues will also be discussed.

SKAG2193 – Geomorfologi Pinggir Pantai

This course aims to give the students an understanding of the geomorphologic processes in coastal zone. Students will also be exposed to the concept of coastal mass budget to understand the quasi-equilibrium of coastal zone.

SKAG2263 – Teknik dalam Geografi

This course will expose students to the techniques commonly used in geography such as measures of central tendency, data comparison, association, relationship and prediction. The course will also teach elements of computerized cartography and spatial statistics. Data analysis will utilize the SPSS software.

SKAG2273 – Geografi Politik

This course discusses the interaction between politic and geographical phenomenon. It focuses on spatial changes in current political development processes and the implementation of public policy.

SKAG3006 – Latihan Industri

This course aims to expose students to the working environment. Students will participate in an organization as its STAFF member and will understand his/her responsibility in the administration and management of the organization. Students will also gain experience with regard organizing a project, assuming work responsibility, identifying work related problems and solving them. At the end of the program, students should be able to produce a report and deliver an effective presentation.

SKAG3063 – Hidrologi Lembangan

This course exposes students theoretically and practically, to hydrological knowledge on water resources and its cycle in natural state. Reactions and process elements will be studied from catchment scale to estuary and coastal boundaries. Through this exposure, students will be able to analyse the impacts of development on water cycle processes.

SKAG3073 – Pembangunan Pertanian dan Industri Asas Tani

This course deals with the development dynamics of agriculture development and agri-based industry.

SKAG3103 – Geografi Ekonomi dan Dasar Awam

This course explains the relationship between the process of globalisation and locational changes of world economic activities and its implications on the policy of economic development of developing countries with special reference to Malaysia. Focus of the discussion will be on the transformation of primary, secondary and tertiary sectors, particularly including business, commerce, transportion and tourism.

SKAG3113 – Pembangunan dan Pengurusan Alam Sekitar

This course covers aspects of environmental management and its impact due to land use development and changes. Special focus will be given to skills on detecting land use change as well as measuring environmental impacts. This course will discuss the environmental management aspect in line with sustainable development concept.

SKAG3143 – Perubahan Iklim

The course will expose students to the underlying concepts of the past and present climate change. In order to know future climate and to plan mitigation and adaptation strategies, an understanding of what the climate was like in the last few thousand years should also be studied.

SKAG3153 – Geografi Pengangkutan

This course focusess on the question of how transportation,that is infrastructure benefits the population through the reduction of distance resulting from the physical barriers, travel time and cost or fare. Social impacts of transportation activities, policies and transportation planning to ensure sustainable economic activities, minimum environmental impacts and reduction of accessibility gap among the consumers will also be discussed.

SKAG3173 – Kajian Pelancongan

This course introduces tourism as the most important economic activity in the world. It discusses several basic definitions, models, theories and tourism development planning. Tourism development in Malaysia and several other countries will be examined.

 SKAG3243 – Pengurusan Sumber Air

This course discusses an integrated water resources management perspective with emphasis on water catchments management, water supply system and water resource distribution. Students will be exposed to the concepts and theories on water supply management, aggregate analysis on water supply and demand as well as ground water and surface water resources management.

SKAG3253 – Pengurusan Sisa Bersepadu

This course covers various concepts of risk evaluation and the management of natural hazards. Types of risk evaluation and the management of natural hazards, its analysis and risk prediction will be emphasized.

SKAG3293 – Ekosistem Bandar

This course discusses the basic principles of urban ecosystem. Special focus will be given on the interaction between human and physical environment and its impacts to urban ecosystem. This course also highlights the urban management based on sustainable development principle.

SKAG3303 – Perancangan Bandar dan Wilayah

This course introduces students to the basic concepts, theories and practice in urban planning and regional development focusing on issues related to urban growth and imbalance process of regional development in Malaysia. Special emphasis is given to structure plan and local plan for urban planning, and on regional policies and strategies for national development.

SKAG3316 – Latihan Ilmiah

This course is an academic axercise for students to conduct an independent research. The student will gain knowledge, particularly, in identifying geographic issues and appropriate methodology for the research. Students will be guided in organizing their data and writing an academic paper.
