Prof Dato' Dr
Roslan Abd Shukor
Department of
Applied Physics
Universiti
Kebangsaan Malaysia Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia
Roslan
Abd Shukor obtained his BSc (1982) and MSc (1985) degrees in Physics from Northern
Illinois University, USA, and completed his PhD in Physics at the University of
Arkansas, USA, in 1991. He is currently a Professor at the Department of
Applied Physics, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, with a specialization in high-temperature
superconductivity.
He
has served as a Visiting Fellow at several prestigious institutions, including Kyoto
University, Princeton University, and Texas A&M University. His early
education includes attending Sekolah Teknik Tuanku Jaafar in Seremban, Negeri
Sembilan.
Prof.
Roslan has received numerous accolades, including the National Young Scientist
Award (1999) and the Malaysia Toray Science and Technology Award (2006). His
research has been supported by grants from organizations such as the Malaysia
Toray Science Foundation and the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Italy.
He is a Fellow of the Malaysian Solid State Science and Technology Society, the
Academy of Sciences Malaysia, and the Institute of Physics (UK).
He has contributed actively to academic
publishing, serving on the editorial boards of several local and international
journals, including Superconductor Science & Technology, International
Journal of Superconductivity, ISESCO Journal of Science and Technology,
Jurnal Fizik Malaysia, and Solid State Science and Technology. He
was the Editor-in-Chief of Sains Malaysiana from 2006 to 2013.
His pioneering research on the electrical,
magnetic, and elastic properties of copper oxide-based materials has deepened
scientific understanding of electron pairing mechanisms in these complex systems.
His work on thallium-based superconductor derivatives has contributed to the
discovery of new high-temperature superconducting materials. To date, he has
authored over 200 peer-reviewed journal articles and several books on
superconductivity. He is also an advocate for scientific communication, having
written extensively on research writing and conducted numerous workshops on scientific
writing and journal management for young researchers.
