BACKGROUND

In the history of civilisation, man have undergone at least three major revolutions namely the revolutions of agricultural , industrial and information. In this 21st century, a new revolution called the GRIN has surfaced. GRIN is an acronym for the fields of genomics, robotic, information and Nano-technology. In genomics, scientists have managed to encode a composition of 30 000 to 50 0000 genes on an individual. This information has helped scientists and technologists to seek antidotes of various diseases which are related to breeds and researches in the field of robotics that have assisted humans in their daily life. This is followed by a progress in the field of information that has led to the capacity to manipulate and interpret all data related to human attitude and others including Nano-engineering or engineering at its most micro level. This rapid expansion of science and technology has created vast challenges for the scientists and local technologists and researchers, especially in the Malay world, to prepare themselves to face such expansion. This shows that the significance of science and technology in any clusters of society due to its invaluable contribution to mankind, including those in the Malay world. History has also shown that the Malay world has been one of the contributors to the development of Science and Technology not only in the region but also in the global progress of civilisations. In light of this, , the initiated SALAM 1 and SALAM 2 that aimed to set forth the achievements of the Malay World in science and technology has added on scholarly contribution relating to science and technology in the Malay world, intensifying the understanding and recognition of science and technology in the Malay World.
