CCOP being a regional geoscience organization also plays the leading role in enabling capacity building and promoting technology advances. CCOP being a regional geoscience organization also plays the leading role in enabling capacity building and promoting technology advances. CCOP has promoted many geoscience innovations to support green economy and green technology through sustainable energy development, sustainable tourism, disaster risk reduction to ensure human security, and sustainable mineral development. The focus has been on strengthening technical and scientific cooperation, enhancing national capabilities and the quality of research for policy and decision-making processes, developing resource-efficient and inclusive economies through sharing of sustainable practices and promoting public-private partnerships.

The Organizers cordially invite participation to:

  • 2012 CCOP Thematic Session: Geoscience Innovations for Sustainable Development: The Future We Want
Inviting contributions for the oral as well as the poster sessions for the session. Presentations should show-case geoscience innovations contributing to sustainable development, alone or as part of a multi-disciplinary effort particularly in relation to attaining green economy. 6 – 7 November 2012 –  Langkawi Island, Malaysia

  • Workshop on Natural Hazards and Climate Change Adaptation
The half day Workshop on 9 November 2012 will focus on practical appliances. Brief theoretical backgrounds will be provided with “real world” examples of applying climate change adaptation concepts in decision making processes. The workshop is interactive, focusing on group discussions on the pro’s and con’s of adaptation options and its applicability. 9 November 2012 –  Langkawi Island, Malaysia

  • Expert Meeting on Land Subsidence in Coastal Megacities
The Expert Meeting will focus on Land Subsidence issues in coastal megacities and other urban areas in South, South-east, and East Asia. We envisage a very stimulating and high level information exchange (case studies with new methodologies, integrated approaches, geological to geotechnical and the governance aspects of dealing with land subsidence). The meeting will also provide an opportunity to discuss ideas for new cooperation projects in CCOP member countries.  9 November 2012 –  Langkawi Island, Malaysia
