Who we are

Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Institute (SEADPRI-UKM), (ms: Institut Kajian Bencana Asia Tenggara; ch: 东南亚防灾研究所) was established on 1 June 2008 as a research institute under the administrative structure of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. SEADPRI-UKM conducts holistic disaster related research at global scale, in support of government’s decision making on climatic, geological and technological hazards as well as enhancing human capital and capacity of workforce at local, state, national and international levels, particularly in Southeast Asia.

Objectives

  • Explore and expand knowledge in the fields of climatic, geological and technological hazards
  • Conduct multidisciplinary research programmes in disaster prevention and risk reduction
  • Develop trained human capital in addressing disaster issues for knowledge-based decision making through post-graduate programmes
  • Serve as a focal point on issues related to science and governance for disaster risk reduction in Southeast Asia
