TUAN HJ. KASSIM THUKIMAN

Kassim mendapat pendidikan awal di Masai dan menengah di Johor Bahru. Mendapat ijazah Sarjana Muda Sastera (kepujian) dari UM, dalam bidang sejarah, Sarjana HRD (UTM), dan kini sedang menyiapkan desertasi PhD. Kini, beliau bertugas sebagai pensyarah kanan di Fakulti Pengurusan dan Pembangunan Sumber Manusia di UTM (1989-kini). Beliau pernah bertugas di Jabatan Kastam, JB dan tutor di Jabatan Sejarah, UM.  Di UTM, beliau pernah menjadi Pengurus Teknologi Maklumat, FPPSM, Ketua Panel Sejarah, Sains Politik dan Hubungan Antarabangsa, FPPSM, Ketua Editor Jurnal Kemanusiaan FPPSM dan  menganggotai beberapa jawatankuasa di peringkat jabatan, fakulti dan universiti.

Dalam aktiviti akademik, beliau terlibat dalam penyelidikan dan penulisan mengenai sejarah, khususnya sejarah Malaysia dan sejarah Johor. Curriculum Vitae Prof. Dr. Sabirin Ja’afar

PROF. DR. SABIRIN JAA’FAR

Prof. Dr. Sabirin Ja’afar graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B Hons) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 1987. He joined the Malaysian Judicial and Legal Service in the same year as a Magistrate. He later served as Senior Assistant Registrar, Deputy Registrar of High Court  in Kuala Lumpur and Georgetown and Head, Research Division of the Federal Court of Malaysia before appointed a Sessions Court Judge, Kuala Lumpur. He also served under the Attorney General’s Chambers as Deputy Public Prosecutor for Kuala Lumpur, Senior Federal Counsel (International and Advisory Division), Legal Advisor for the Ministry of Defence and Director of Legal and Investigations of Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). He was seconded to the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Authority (MTJA) as its Legal and Administration Manager before opting for early retirement in 2011.

Dr. Sabirin was called to the Malaysian Bar as an Advocate & Solicitor, High Court of Malaya in July 1996.

In September 1996 he pursued his masters in maritime law in Cardiff, Wales and in 2002 he won the prestigious Chevening Scholarship from the British Government to pursue his Ph.D  in maritime studies at Greenwich Maritime Institute, London. While in London, he was attached to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as an intern.

Dr. Sabirin is currently Professor of Business Law and Ethics in the International Business School (IBS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Kuala Lumpur.

During his student days Dr. Sabirin was an active student and had participated in students union i.e. PKPIM and had written articles in newspapers and had also won a number of writing competitions at national and regional level.

He is active in the IIUM alumni activities and was elected as President, Persatuan Alumni UIAM for two terms sessions 2000-2004.

He has been a law lecturer in Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) for more than 20 years.Currently he is holding the post of Deputy Dean (Postgraduate Studies and Research). Before appointed as Deputy Dean in 2010 he was the Head of Department, Public Law Department, AIKOL since 2006.

Education: Malay College Kuala Kangsar, LLB(Hons) (IIUM), Master in Comparative Laws (IIUM), PhD (Law) (Aberystwyth).

He is the Coordinator for CANGGIH (Constitution, Administration, Good, Governance, Integrity, and Human Rights) Research Unit of IIUM and a member of ADRU (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Research Unit, IIUM. Hehas been trusted to be Course Coordinators for numerous undergraduate and postgraduate subjects including Constitutional Law I ⅈ Introduction to Malaysian Civil Law; Legal Research and Method; Advanced Legal Method and Research; Techniques of Writing Judgments and Academic Legal Writing; Introduction to Constitutional Law I & II; and Introduction to Constitutional Law. He has the experience of teachings wide ranging law subjects including Constitutional Law, Malaysian Legal System, Legal Method and Research, Land Law, Contract Law, Commercial Law etc. He has co-supervised a few PhD students who have graduated and currently is the principal supervisor for three PhD candidates and co-supervisor for many PhD students.
