SUCOMBS :: Sustainable Construction Materials and Building Systems

Background

Sustainable Construction Materials and Building Systems Research Group (SUCOMBS) is a multi-disciplinary research group which involves research expertise in engineering, built environment and science & technology where knowledge, experience, inspiration and mission are shared. The SUCOMBS research group [formerly known as High Performance Concrete Research Team (HiPert)], was established in 1998.

Objectives

To promote green materials and sustainably-inspired product in buildings.

To provide innovative design solutions by adopting and applying sustainable aspects and simplified installation factors.

To provide economical designs using sustainable materials for future building.

Aims

The aim of this research group is to promote sustainability in the construction industry in Malaysia. This is done two-fold. The first is to create awareness to all stakeholders concerning the issue of sustainability. The next step is to focus on the economics of building. Here, emphasis would be on the sustainable and comfort aspects as well as affordability and buildability ones. These would provide a clear path towards the orderly and efficient growth of the industry.

Projects

SUCOMBS model buildings have the following in their construction criteria:

Green and eco-friendly materials.

Innovative designs.

Prefabricated elements.

Simplified installation (modular)

Sensitive to local culture and traditions.

We envision our projects to be groundbreaking and aspire to be the leading  light in the Malaysian building industry.
