– Overview

UMBI was formed in July 2003 as one of the strategies by the UKM to enhance research in molecular medicine. Over the years, UMBI has grown in strength and capacities, and has since been recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education as a Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HICoE).

Focusing on cancer biomarkers research, UMBI has several state-of-the-art laboratories that provide platform technologies and analysis in genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics studies. UMBI offers MSc and PhD in molecular medicine and also Professional Certificate in molecular biology-related technologies.

UMBI has also been entrusted to spearhead The Malaysian Cohort project which is a top-down national project that focus on identifying risk factors and discovering biomarkers for various diseases including cancer. UMBI has forged collaborations with many international institutions in order to consolidate its research excellence.
