Dr. Nurul Syakima Ab Mutalib, Research Fellow/Senior Lecturer, UMBI

Dr. Nurul Syakima graduated with 1st Class Honour in Bachelor of Biomedical Science from Universiti Putra Malaysia. She obtained her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Molecular Biology from the same university, focusing on expression profiling and functional studies to understand microRNAs regulation in head and neck cancers in 2012. Currently she is a Research Fellow in UMBI, Team Leader for Cancer Genomics & Biobank Research group and also the Head of Quality Assurance. Her current research focused on understanding molecular basis of cancer and metastasis in solid tumours such as colorectal, endometrial, thyroid, breast and ovarian cancers via state-of-the-art genomics, transcriptomics and methylomics approaches. She is also the principal investigator for numerous research grants obtained both locally and internationally.

Dr. Nadiah Abu, Research Fellow/Senior Lecturer, UMBI

Dr. Nadiah is a research fellow from the functional genomics group in UMBI. She obtained her PhD from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2015 focusing on drug discovery. Her current research interests is regarding extracellular vesicles and its applications as biomarkers and immune regulators in cancers. She has received several grants for researching on exosomes among which is a study to profile non coding RNAs in exosomes derived from colorectal cancer cells.

Dr. Tan Shing Cheng, Research Fellow/Senior Lecturer, UMBI

Dr. Tan is a research fellow from the Cancer Genomics & Biobank Research group UMBI. He obtained his PhD from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2016 focusing on the roles of selected genetic variations and molecular alterations in human papillomavirus-mediated cancer of uterine cervix. His current research interests is in the field of Cancer Genetics.

Don Lee, QIAGEN APAC Marketing Director, QIAGEN

Don Lee is a Life Science professional for more than 17 years and was appointed QIAGEN Market Director Life Science for Asia Pacific in Jan 2015. His work for QIAGEN, Bio-Rad Laboratories and GE Healthcare Life Sciences includes but not limited to support key Healthcare and research projects across multiple countries within Asia.

In addition, Don has more than 7 years’ experience in Life Science and Molecular diagnostic research earlier in his career contributing to development of molecular diagnostic RT-PCR detection kit in 2003 during SARS outbreak and developed immunological testing protocols for chemical warfare detection for Singapore national surveillance.
