The Effectiveness of the Pyramid of Sentences Method in Enhancing Arabic Sentence Construction Skills: An Action Research Study

This action research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Pyramid Jumal Method in helping Form One students improve their Arabic sentence construction skills. The ability to construct grammatically correct sentences reflects students’ understanding of grammatical systems and their capacity to convey meaning accurately. Classroom observations and document analyses revealed that students faced difficulties in understanding the concept of qawalib (sentence patterns), recalling their sequences, and diversifying sentence forms. This study employed an explanatory mixed-method design combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. A total of 25 Form One students from a religious secondary school in Perak were selected as participants. Research instruments included pre- and post-tests, observations, document analyses, and semi-structured interviews. The intervention was conducted through teaching sessions using the Pyramid Jumal Method, grounded in visual and structured learning principles. Quantitative data were analysed descriptively and inferentially using a paired-sample t-test with SPSS version 27, while qualitative data were analysed thematically using ATLAS.ti version 24. The findings revealed a significant increase in post-test scores (p < 0.001) and positive feedback from students regarding the method’s effectiveness in helping them construct sentences more easily and confidently. The study concludes that the Pyramid Jumal Method is an innovative and practical approach for teaching Arabic, particularly in sentence construction. It is recommended that such approaches be implemented more widely in real classroom settings as effective alternatives to traditional methods.

Students’ Vocabulary Mastery in Basic Academic Arabic PPPY1022 at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia: A Focus on Writing Skills

This study aims to examine the level of Arabic language proficiency among students enrolled in the Basic Academic Arabic course PPPY 1022 at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, with particular focus on writing skills. As a second foreign language for most Malay students, Arabic often presents significant challenges due to differences in linguistic structure, grammatical systems, and vocabulary usage. Using a qualitative approach, the study analyzes students’ final examination papers, specifically sections requiring them to construct sentences using given vocabulary. Ten samples were randomly selected from fifty answer scripts for in-depth analysis. The findings reveal that the main weaknesses lie in vocabulary mastery, sentence structure, grammar, and semantics. Students frequently make errors in word selection, verb–object usage, and grammatical sentence construction. Additionally, some students struggle to differentiate between noun and verb forms, fail to grasp the concept of mudāf and mudāf ilayh, and show inconsistency in gender agreement. Many are also unable to align vocabulary with sentence context, resulting in unclear meanings. The study concludes that students’ proficiency is at a moderate level and still requires systematic improvement. Therefore, Arabic language instruction should be strengthened through an integrated approach that combines vocabulary mastery with writing practice, technological application, and continuous assessment. This study is expected to contribute to the development of more effective teaching strategies to enhance Arabic writing skills among non-native university students.

This study is a study on insects according to the views of Ibn Jarir al-Ṭabari a, Ibn Umar al-Zamakhshari and modern research . This study objectives are also to see through the different opinion between these two scholars. The study of insects has become a study that is often done by researchers because of the uniqueness found in these insects. The insects found in this study were analyzed based on the study of language and a little study of the literature related to the modern study of insects. The results of the study found that the interpretation of insects, according to the views of these two scholars has the differences, such as in historical linguistics, pragmatics, and semantics. As a result of this discovery, it is known that differences in background will affect the way a person interprets something, even in the same field. In addition, the discovery of insects from the point of view of modern science is more focused on certain aspects, such as ticks, bees, flies, and termites, focusing more on the study of behavior and its pros and cons. This will indeed provide information about insects from a different point of view and with different knowledge.

Tadabbur of the Qur’an is an essential requirement in the effort to internalize its contents and actualize their application in daily life. This process involves various methods and approaches to reflect upon the Qur’an more deeply and effectively. One of the approaches to tadabbur of the Qur’an is through the Arabic language. However, Malaysian society faces challenges in mastering Arabic due to environmental factors and the perception of it as a foreign language. Therefore, tadabbur of the Qur’an becomes a medium for applying the Arabic language, which enhances the understanding of the Qur’an’s meanings. In line with this, the present study aims to analyze tadabbur methods based on the Arabic language approach. This study adopts a qualitative design using content analysis on two main works of Dr. Aqil Salim al-Syamriy, namely Qawāʿid al-Tadabbur ʿalā Qiṣār al-Mufaṣṣal and Tadabbur Surah Maryam. The findings reveal that the tadabbur methods outlined and applied by al-Syamriy in Tadabbur Surah Maryam are practical, comprehensive, and flexible depending on the suitability of the verse. Hence, this study emphasizes the importance of expanding the application of tadabbur methods as a systematic and effective medium for internalizing the Qur’an.

Discourse Analysis of Arabic Texts in Advanced Academic Arabic Courses: A Proposed Structured Text Analysis Strategy

This study proposes a structured reading text analysis strategy for application in the teaching and learning of the Advanced Academic Arabic course at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, UKM. In the context of advanced language learning, the main problem identified is that students find it difficult to connect micro-text information (sentences) with macro-text meaning (overall text) due to a lack of mastery of analytical reading strategies. Analytical reading skills are a crucial foundation for students to understand discourse structure, meaning relationships, and rhetorical strategies in Arabic academic texts. This study employs a literature review and document analysis approach to examine relevant theories and models of text analysis, including Van Dijk’s model (Cognitive and Critical Theory), Halliday’s model (Systemic-Functional Linguistics), and principles of traditional Arabic discourse analysis (Balaghah and Nahu). The findings indicate that a structured reading strategy comprising pre-analytical reading, micro-text reading, macro-text reading, and reflective reading can enhance students’ understanding of cohesion, coherence, idea organization, and argumentative relationships in Arabic texts. Based on these findings, the study proposes a systematic text analysis strategy for use in the teaching and learning of Advanced Academic Arabic. The study’s implications emphasize the importance of developing learning modules focused on discourse analysis to strengthen students’ analytical reading skills at the advanced level.
