The Second Asian Science and Technology Conference for DRR 2018 was co-hosted by the Expert Committee of National Commission for Disaster Reduction of China, Ministry of Civil Affairs of China, Ministry of Emergency Management of China, Beijing Normal University and UNDRR. The Conference was attended by more than 300 senior researches and academics, policy-makers, practitioners, civil society and the private sector in the realm of disaster risk reduction from across Asia, and more widely participated.

 

The participants renewed the commitment to the accelerated implementation of the Sendai Framework as the pivotal means to achieve the goals of sustainable development and resilience. They committed to develop and disseminate science-based DRR defined by technology and innovation and reaffirmed the importance of the twelve actions identified in the First Asian Science and Technology Conference for Disaster Risk Deduction in 2016, and added two more actions, emerged from this conference. The 14 actions are in alignment with the global ‘Science and Technology Roadmap’ and provide concrete guidelines for the actions of science, technology, and academia stakeholders in the next two years in Asia. These recommended actions also contributed to the 2018 Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, which was held in July 2018 at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and the outcome from this Conference was the “Action Plan 2018-2020 of the Asia Regional Plan for Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030”.
