data-path-to-node=\"1\"><span data-path-to-node=\"1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">26 August 2026<\/b> \u2013 The Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) successfully organized the <b data-path-to-node=\"1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"148\">STEM Outreach Program: Biochemistry and Medicine 2026<\/b> at the Preclinical Block, UKM Faculty of Medicine<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"1,2\">. The event hosted a delegation of 32 STEM Club students from Forms 1 to 3, accompanied by 4 teacher escorts from Sekolah Menengah Integrasi Sains Tahfiz (SMISTA)<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"1,4\">.<\/span><\/p><p id=\"p-rc_83aa1798bf356471-178\" data-path-to-node=\"2\"><span data-path-to-node=\"2,0\">Initiated by the Department of Biochemistry, the program aimed to provide early exposure and practical, hands-on experience in basic medical sciences, while fostering interest among the younger generation in biochemical research and healthcare careers<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"2,2\">.<\/span><\/p><p id=\"p-rc_83aa1798bf356471-179\" data-path-to-node=\"5\"><span data-path-to-node=\"5,0\">The program commenced at 2:00 PM with the arrival of participants at the Level 2 Skybridge, Preclinical Block<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"5,2\">. The opening session featured a welcoming address by the Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Prof. Dr. Suzana Makpol<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"5,4\">.<\/span><\/p><p id=\"p-rc_83aa1798bf356471-180\" data-path-to-node=\"6\"><span data-path-to-node=\"6,0\">Participants then attended an insightful lecture titled <i data-path-to-node=\"6,0\" data-index-in-node=\"56\">&#8220;The Future of Medicine: Opportunities and Career Paths&#8221;<\/i> delivered by Dr. Nuraqila Mohd Murshid, Lecturer at the Department of Biochemistry, in Lecture Hall 2<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,2\">. The session highlighted the vital role of biochemistry in modern medical science and explored future prospects in scientific careers<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,4\">.<\/span><\/p><p id=\"p-rc_83aa1798bf356471-181\" data-path-to-node=\"7\"><span data-path-to-node=\"7,0\">Following a briefing on safety and program procedures by Mr. Wan Junizam Wan Yusof, Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"7,2\">, the students were split into smaller groups for practical research activities at the Level 11 Laboratories<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"7,4\">.<\/span><\/p><p id=\"p-rc_83aa1798bf356471-182\" data-path-to-node=\"8\"><span data-path-to-node=\"8,0\">During these sessions, students participated in three interactive laboratory stations<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,2\">:<\/span><\/p><ul data-path-to-node=\"9\"><li><p id=\"p-rc_83aa1798bf356471-183\" data-path-to-node=\"9,0,0\"><span data-path-to-node=\"9,0,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"9,0,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Station 1 (<i data-path-to-node=\"9,0,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"11\">Cracking the Genetic Code: DNA Extraction<\/i>):<\/b> Hands-on experience with DNA extraction techniques from biological samples<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"9,0,0,2\">.<\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p id=\"p-rc_83aa1798bf356471-184\" data-path-to-node=\"9,1,0\"><span data-path-to-node=\"9,1,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"9,1,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Station 2 (<i data-path-to-node=\"9,1,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"11\">DNA Under Attack: Exploring DNA Damage in Cells<\/i>):<\/b> Insights into cellular mechanisms and the impact of DNA damage<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"9,1,0,2\">.<\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p id=\"p-rc_83aa1798bf356471-185\" data-path-to-node=\"9,2,0\"><span data-path-to-node=\"9,2,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"9,2,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Station 3 (<i data-path-to-node=\"9,2,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"11\">Mission: Keep the Cells Alive!<\/i>):<\/b> Basic principles and techniques for maintaining cell cultures in a laboratory environment<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"9,2,0,2\">.<\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul><p id=\"p-rc_83aa1798bf356471-186\" data-path-to-node=\"12\"><span data-path-to-node=\"12,0\">To complement the laboratory activities, the students visited the Anatomy Museum on Level 3 at 3:30 PM to examine various human anatomical specimens at close range<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"12,2\">.<\/span><\/p><p id=\"p-rc_83aa1798bf356471-187\" data-path-to-node=\"13\"><span data-path-to-node=\"13,0\">The program concluded at 3:45 PM in the Preclinical Block Lobby with a certificate presentation to the student representative, food pack distribution, and a photo session, before officially adjourning at 4:00 PM<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"13,2\">.<\/span><\/p><p id=\"p-rc_83aa1798bf356471-188\" data-path-to-node=\"14\"><span data-path-to-node=\"14,0\">The Department of Biochemistry, UKM Faculty of Medicine, extends its sincere appreciation to SMISTA for the active participation of its students and teachers<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"14,2\">. It is hoped that this exposure inspires the students to pursue further studies in science, biochemistry, and
