BULETIN SAINS KESIHATAN (BSK)

Buletin Sains Kesihatan (BSK) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to advancing research findings across various fields of health and medical sciences as well as related technologies. It encompasses articles covering diverse aspects of health sciences, including both clinical and pre-clinical research. Among the fields covered are audiology, biochemistry, dentistry, dietetics, medical imaging, biomedical science, radiation science, nutrition, optometry, pharmacology, pharmacy, physiology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, forensic science, public health, health psychology, environmental health, speech sciences, and sports science.

The bulletin publishes original articles, short communications, case reports, and research notes of interest to a broad scholarly audience. BSK is published by the Editorial Board of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. In addition, renowned scholars from both local and international universities are appointed as members of the advisory board and as reviewers of submitted manuscripts.

BSK is committed to promoting excellence in research across the broad spectrum of health and medical sciences. The journal strives to encourage academic dialogue, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the translation of research into clinical and community health practice.

Scope

BSK publishes articles related to both pre-clinical and clinical health sciences, as well as health-related technologies.

BSK accepts the following types of submissions:

  • Original articles – Full-length research papers reporting new data or findings
  • Short communications – Concise reports on novel or preliminary research
  • Case reports – Detailed accounts of interesting or rare clinical cases
  • Research notes – Brief notes or updates on ongoing or recently completed research

PUBLICATION AND FREQUENCY

BSK follows a refereed, open-access publication model to ensure broad accessibility to its content. All articles undergo a rigorous single blind peer-review process conducted by experts in relevant fields. The journal is published biannually (June and December).

Publisher

BSK is published by the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The journal also benefits from the support of a diverse advisory board and expert reviewers from both local and international institutions.

Digital Archive

All published articles are digitally archived on the official BSK website and mirrored in Mysitasi. The digital preservation policy ensures long-term accessibility and retrievability for research and citation purposes. Each article is assigned a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI), ensuring precise identification and easy access for citation and reference purposes.

Authors retain copyright for their published articles. Upon acceptance, authors grant BSK the right of first publication and permission to distribute the work.

Open Access Policy

BSK follows a Gold Open Access model. All content is freely accessible online without subscription fees. This ensures that research is discoverable and usable by a global audience, promoting equity in knowledge dissemination.

Ownership

BSK is fully owned and managed by the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The journal operates independently under the faculty’s academic governance and quality assurance mechanisms.

BSK employs a single-blind peer review process involving two independent reviewers. In this model, the reviewers are aware of The authors’ identities are kept confidential, while they remain unaware of who is reviewing their manuscript. This approach promotes objective evaluation while ensuring constructive academic feedback. Each submission is assessed for scientific merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal’s scope.

Plagiarism policy

BSK maintains a zero-tolerance policy on plagiarism and research misconduct.

  • All submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software.
  • Plagiarism includes direct copying, inappropriate paraphrasing, self-plagiarism (duplicate publication), or failure to properly attribute sources.
  • If plagiarism is detected:
    • During submission: the manuscript will be rejected immediately.
    • Post-publication: the article will be retracted, and appropriate action will be taken against the author(s), including notification of their institution.
  • Authors are responsible for ensuring all work is properly cited and original.
  • All submissions must have a similarity index of less than 20%. Failure to comply may result in immediate rejection.

Article Processing Charges (APC)

There are no article processing charges (APCs) for submission or publication. BSK is committed to supporting accessible publishing and encourages submissions from diverse academic backgrounds, especially early-career researchers.
