PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airports has replaced the network equipment that caused the disruption of systems experienced at KL International Airport (KLIA) since Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The equipment is currently being tested and closely monitored for stability, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) group CEO Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin said in a statement today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSince the replacement of the network equipment, we have seen positive progress in network stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCritical systems at the KLIA main terminal are now mostly up and running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNevertheless, we have adopted a cautious approach and will remain vigilant as we are still experiencing some intermittent issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe KLIA main terminal is still experiencing some delays, but the situation is improving due to measures that have been put in place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The glitch had affected the internet connection, flight information terminals, check-in counters and the baggage-handling system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raja Azmi gave credit to the whole airport community \u201cfor rallying together in facing this challenge\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have never seen better cooperation among airlines, who are all helping one another so that flight operations can continue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raja Azmi said systems at KLIA\u2019s second terminal, klia2, are generally not affected at present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhile our focus remains on ensuring the continuous availability of the systems, we are also extending all possible assistance to the airlines and passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere have been flight delays and cancellations, but we are managing this by utilising all 38 aircraft remote bays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are also providing additional buses and ground-handling services for the airlines to facilitate passenger movements at these remote bays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOther airports nationwide will also continue to extend their operating hours in the event that there are delayed departing flights from KUL.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raja Azmi said 1,000 additional staff are assisting passengers on the ground and to help with the manual sorting of the baggage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are also working very closely with the airlines to ensure that bags are delivered to their rightful owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe additional manpower will remain in place until the situation is back to normal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raja Azmi said he was extremely appreciative of the general public\u2019s patience and understanding in this matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe deeply regret the inconvenience that has been caused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhile the situation is improving, we still urge passengers to arrive at the terminal at least four hours prior to departure over the next few days.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Passengers are also encouraged to continue using their respective airlines\u2019 mobile apps or websites to check-in to avoid long queues at the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They can reach out to airport staff for assistance or further information regarding their flight details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe encourage passengers to stay updated through our social media platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier today, the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) had voiced its concerns with regard to the disruption of systems at KLIA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It noted that MAHB is working with all relevant parties, including the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to restore the airport\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
