Curriculum Vitae

I joined the Department of Physiology as a senior lecturer after completing my PhD in neurophysiology of alcohol addiction in 2015. Prior to that, I graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia in biomedical science (BSc) with a first class honours degree in 2008. My research interests lie primarily in the area of neurophysiology of alcohol addiction. I am especially interested in hyperglutamatergic state of emotional circuit following prolonged alcohol consumption. I'm also focusing on the possible key mechanisms involved in maintenance of drug experience-associated long-term memory. I am also interested in gut-brain axis where currently we are investigating the functional link between gut integrity and development of psychiatric disorders such as depression. I am also investigating the potential benefits of various natural products on cognitive function using rodent models induced with cognitive deficits such as high fat diet, and sporadic form of Alzheimer’s disease. Using in vitro model, I am studying the potential ameliorative effects of hydroxytyrosol in peripheral demyelinating disorder.
