FACILITIES

EKOMAR@Mersing has established a dedicated site for education and research, offering scientists and students significant opportunities to investigate an extensive diversity of both marine and terrestrial biota. Strategically located at Tg. Resang, the station is situated in proximity to the undisturbed forests of Gunung Arong, a distinctive coastal lagoon system, as well as the numerous islands and coral reef ecosystems of Mersing. In order to support its function as a centre for scientific investigation, environmental education, and knowledge exchange, the station is equipped with a range of facilities, including:

  • Marine Gallery – Serves as an exhibition platform that highlights marine biodiversity, ecological research, and conservation initiatives, thereby fostering scientific awareness and public engagement.

  • Wet Laboratory – Provides a controlled environment for experimental procedures and the examination of live or preserved aquatic specimens.

  • Dry Laboratory – Supports analytical and computational research activities, including sample processing, data management, and interpretation.

  • Meeting Room – A formal space designed to facilitate academic presentations, professional workshops, and structured scientific discourse.

  • Discussion Room – A designated area intended to promote intellectual exchange, collaborative dialogue, and student-centred learning.

  • Surau – A dedicated prayer facility to accommodate the spiritual needs of staff, researchers, and visitors.

  • Campsite – An outdoor facility that enables immersive field-based learning, ecological observation, and experiential team-building activities.
