  • Introduction
    Before submitting to Jurnal Ekonomi Malaysia, author should consider whether the article falls broadly within the economics area or within the Aims and Scope of the journal.

    Desk Rejection
    Due to the increasing number of submission, a desk-rejection strategy is implemented. Submitted papers that do not directly related to the aims and scope of the journal or excessively long are likely to be desk rejected although the papers are good. Papers with a marginal contribution to the respected field or do not meet our quality standards are also likely to be desk-rejected. The quality issues include inappropriate research questions, not sufficiently rigorous and not sufficiently in depth intellectually. In addition, the papers written in language and grammar that do not achieve a scholarly accepted standard are likely to be desk rejected.

    Review Process
    Managing Editor or Chief Editor will initially consider the submitted papers before allocating to the assigned editor. The papers that are not desk-rejected will be sent out for refereeing process. The handling editor (associate editor) will make a decision (recommend to the chief editor) whether to accept, reject or ask for a revision of the submitted manuscript after receiving the reviews. Normally at least two reviews are needed but in certain cases, only one review will be obtained before the assigned editor of the manuscript makes the final decision.

    Minor revisions should be made within 2 weeks and major revision should be submitted within 24 weeks unless in certain justifiable circumstances. Major revisions that are not submitted within the stipulated time frame will be dropped and will be considered as new submission if the authors decide to submit at a later stage.

    Submission Checklist
    Before sending your article, you may use the checklist below. Incomplete submission may results in your paper being returned.

    • Front page with each author’s affiliation, and corresponding author’s email and mailing address
    • Includes Keywords and JEL classification codes
    • Manuscript contains between 6000-8000 words
    • Tables and figures with relevant titles and match with citations in text
    • Grammar and Spelling have been checked
    • All references are cited in the text
    • Copyrighted materials used have the permission
    • Submission is approved by all authors
    • Acknowledge the financial support provider (if any)
    • Manuscript has not been submitted to or in consideration of other journal
    • Three referee suggestions with email and affiliation details in “Comments for Editor” section during submission. Please note that the journal may/ may not use these suggestions but this will speed up the appropriate reviewers selection
    • Any author’s identifying information in the main body of the manuscript has been removed in complying with double-blind review guidelines.

    Publishing Ethics
    Authors to adhere to the research and publishing ethics. The author should write article based on an original work. The work of others is quoted or cited appropriately. More than one journal publication from the same research is generally not allowed. Author is only allowed to publish the paper elsewhere after receiving a formal rejection from the journal or after author’s request to withdraw the paper is officially accepted by the journal. The author must inform the Chief Editor of any inaccuracy of data in their published work so that correction or retraction of article can be done. The author should make significant contributions and be held accountable for any shortcoming in the work. Author should state the results clearly, honestly, and without fabrication, falsification or inappropriate data manipulation. The methods used in the work should be clearly and unambiguously described so that the findings can be repeated and confirmed by other researchers. Name of authors listed in a paper should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the report. Others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the work must be acknowledged or listed as contributors. It is the duty of the corresponding author to ensure that all appropriate co-authors are included on the paper.

    Submission Declaration
    The submission of the article implies that the work has not been previously published (except for academic thesis or abstract) or in consideration of other publications, an original contribution and has been approved by all authors and authorities where the work was carried out. The paper that has been accepted for publication should not be published elsewhere in the same form without a written consent from the journal as the copyright-holder. Authors are however encouraged to share and promote your article in contributing to wider scientific progress and help the authors to promote the research, get more citations and stronger reputations. Authors may see on how authors can share their articles that have been published in academic journals responsibly.

    Funding Source
    The author should identify the financial support provider in conducting the research and/ or preparing the article by acknowledging the sponsor and grant number (if any). A statement on conflict of interest must be included in the manuscript if author receive any support that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.

    Article should be written in good British English or American English or Malay Language but not the mixture of these languages.

    It is the author's responsibility to ensure that the submitted work does not infringe any existing copyright. Authors should obtain permission to reproduce or adapt copyrighted material and provide evidence of approval upon submitting the final version of a manuscript.

    You should submit your article via Only online submission is considered. The online system will guide you through the submission process.

    Peer Review Process
    The editor will initially assess all contributions for the suitability for the journal. In assessing the quality of a paper, suitable papers are sent to independent expert reviewer. Manuscripts are subject to a double-blind review process. The final decision to accept or reject articles is the responsibility of an editor.

    Double-Blind Review
    With double-blind review, the author identity is unknown to the reviewers and the reviewers are also anonymous. This is to limit reviewer bias and ensure that the articles are considered purely based on the content of the papers. In facilitating the editorial office to make the arrangement for double-blind review, authors are advised to submit the front page and blinded manuscript in separate pages.

    Front Page (with author details):
    This page should include the title, author’s name, complete address, email, indication of the corresponding author, and acknowledgements.

    Blinded Manuscript (no author details):
    The main body of the paper including the abstract, keywords, JEL classification codes; references, tables, figures should not contain any identifying information of the authors.

    Use of Microsoft Word Application Software
    The file must be saved in Microsoft Word with 6000-8000 words count inclusive of tables, figures, references and appendix. The text in the paper must be in Times New Roman 12 font and single spaced with normal margin (2.54cm all round) in A4 (21 x 29.7cm) paper size. The mathematical formula or equation should use Microsoft Equation.

    Article Structure

    Literature Review

    If more than one appendix, label them as APPENDIX A, APPENDIX B and so on. The Equations should be numbered as (A-1), (A-2) and so on. The tables and figures should be numbered as Table A-1, A-2 and Figure A-1, Figure A-2 and so on.

    The tittle, author’s name, affiliation, and section headings should be centered. The heading should be on separate line (See examples below and details in Format and Style Guidelines):

    Paper Title (Tittle Case 14 font in bold Times New Roman)
    Author Name (Uppercase 12 font in ,bold Times New Roman)
    Affiliation (Tittle case 12 font NOT bold Times New Roman)
    Refers to the author’s affiliations where the actual work was done and may differ from the author’s current affiliation.
    ABSTRACT (Uppercase 12 font in bold Times New Roman)

    Abstract in English is required.

    ABSTRAK (Uppercase 12 font in bold Times New Roman)

    Abstract in Malay is required.

    Front Page Information
    [For editorial review submission only]

    • Title: Your title should be descriptive, short and incorporate a phrase related to your topic or keyword. Title in English is required for all submission. Paper written in Malay Language need to have tittle written in both English and Malay.
    • Author names and affiliations: Affiliation refers to the author’s affiliation where the actual work was done.
    • Permanent Address: Present address of the author is required. The address may be different from the institution where the actual work was done.
    • Corresponding Author: Corresponding author’s email address, telephone number and mailing address are required. All correspondence during refereeing process, publication and post-publication will be handled by the corresponding author.

    Abstract is required for all submission. It should contain four elements:

    • Objective
    • Methodology
    • Findings
    • Originality/ Theoretical and/ or Methodological contributions
    Following elements are optional if applicable:
    • Research Implications
    • Practical Implications

    The length of the abstract should be between 150-250 words including keywords and article classification (see sections below). The opening sentence should indicate the major conclusion of the article. Give a clear idea of the main conclusions of the article, the methods employed, and a clear indication of the line of reasoning. Report essential facts within the document, avoid abbreviations, do not dwell into previous literature, and use appropriate keywords and phrases from your article.     Abstract must be written in English and Malay. For non-Malaysian authors who are unable to provide the Malay version, the editor will provide the assistance.

    Keywords are required with five keywords the maximum. Avoid abbreviations except for those of established in the area. Please note that we will try to use the keywords that you have suggested but the editor may replace some of them with matching terms to improve article visibility and for consistency across publications. .

    Classification codes:
    Please provide up to 6 standard JEL codes that can be accessed at

    The acknowledgment (if applicable) should be written at the end of the article before the references. If the research is funded, list the funding sources mentioning the organization and the grant number.

    Mathematical Equation/ Formulae
    The equation and formulae should be numbered consecutively as (1), (2) and so on.

    Number the endnotes consecutively throughout the manuscript. All footnotes should be listed at the end of the article.

    Manuscript must be edited and professional editing is recommended before submitting. Poor language makes it difficult for the editor and reviewers to understand and might lead to rejection of the paper.

    Tables submitted should be editable and not in image form. Place the table next to the related text. Avoid shading the tables. The title should be above each table numbered consecutively as Table 1, Table 2 and so on (See Format and Style guidelines).

    This includes chart, graph, drawings and other illustrations. The title should be below each figure numbered consecutively as Figure 1, Figure 2 and so on. A camera-ready print should be supplied by the author after paper is accepted for publication.

    Only papers being reference in the text should be included in the reference list. The reference list should appear at the end of the main text and before any appendices. It also should be alphabetically ordered by author’s name. References must be in the correct format and style (See Format and Style Guidelines) for details.

    Citation in text
    Please ensure every reference cited in the text is presence in the reference list or every reference in the list is being cited.

    After Acceptance
    After the article is being accepted, the author must pay the article processing fee of RM400 or USD100. This applies to new submission made on the 1st of March 2020 onwards.

    Proof Correction
    The author will be required to provide proof correction within 3 days after receiving the proof.
