Goals and Objectives of the Educational Programs
- Meet the requirement of Malaysia Qualification Agency (MQA) and the Government’s policies, and the need of Research University;
- Consolidate and empower Graduate and Doctor of Philosophy programs;
- Meet more challenging current requirement nad need, in line with the requirement and need of industries, sponsor and society;
- Meet the goal of University mainly in making the faculty and advanced knowledge centre generating leadership, coaching and communication skills in spreading Islam and humanity development;
- Producing human capital capable of being an expert consultant in the specialised fields of al-Quran and al-Sunnah;
- Form human capital successful in the profession ventured;
- Continue lifelong learning and advanced knowledge;
- Able to carry out Islamic Studies researches in general, also in relation to al-Quran and al-Sunnah in specific.

General Requirements and Qualifications of the Entrance
Master
- Obtaining Bachelor Degree of Islamic Studies by acquiring good Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) from UKM or other institutions of higher learning recognised by the Senate; or
- Other qualifications equivalent to the Bachelor Degree of Islamic Studies or working experience recognised by the Senate; and
- Fulfilling other ruquirements decided for the program (if any).
Doctor of Philosophy
- Obtaining Master of Islamic Studies from UKM or other institutions of higher learning recognised by the Senate; or
- Other qualifications equivalent to the Master of Islamic Studies or working experience recognised by the Senate; or
- Presently following Master of Islamic Studies program at UKM for full-time mod of research and approved by the Committee of the Faculty Graduate Studies to turn the status into Doctorate program with the approval of the Dean; or
- Bachelor of Islamic Studies at UKM, with excellent results or from any higher learning institutions recognised by the Senate; and
- Fulfilling other requirements decided for the program (if any).

Language Requirement
Malay Language
Non-native candidates are REQUIRED to follow and pass Malay Language course through Pusat Citra Universiti, subject to the following requirements:
- Exemption is allowed for the candidate who has followed and passed equivalent Malay Language course organised by other bodies recognised by the Senate; and
- In certain cases, the Senate reserves the right to give exemption of Malay Language requirement.
Englis Language
- Non-native candidates who are not achieved TOEFL minimum score (550) or IELTS (Band 5) are REQUIRED to sit for English Proficiency Placement Test (EPPT) as required by the Centre of Education Extension (PKP), UKM.
- The candidate who fails in the EPPT, is REQUIRED to attend and pass English Proficiency Module (EPM). In certain cases, the Senate reserves the right to give exemption of English Language requirement.
Arabic Language
- The candidates are required to sit and attend Arabic Language Qualification workshop to be organised.
- Exemption is given to the candidate whose mother tongue is Arabic. In certain cases, the Senate reserves the right to give exemption of Arabic Language requirement.

Registration and Studies Fees

Payable in time of the candidate to submit thesis for examination, before oral examination.

Graduation Requirements
Master
Candidates need to meet the following requirements throughout the studies before deserving to be granted certificates:
- Attending lectures and passing coursework examinations amounting 12 units in total (coursework and research mod);
- Qualification examination and pre-requisite course (if required);
- Presenting research suggestion proposal in semester 1 or 2 (research mod);
- Providing one (1) dissertation/thesis to be examined by two (2) examiners, and going through oral examination.
- Dissertation/thesis is not to exceed:
- 50,000 words (Master of Coursework and Research);
- 60,000 words (Master of Research); and
- Producing and publishing 1 referred journal article.
Doctor of Philosophy
- Sitting for and passing qualification examination and pre-requisite course (if required);
- Presenting research suggestion proposal in semester 1 or 2;
- Providing one (1) thesis that does not exceed 100,000 words to be examined by Internal and External Examiners besides going through oral examination;
- Producing and publishing 2 high impact journal articles.

Application for Entrance
Application is open twice (2) a year for the Coursework and Research program/mod of studies, whereas the Reserach program/mod of studies is open all the time. The application is through the website guest.ukm.my.

Financial Sponsorship
UKM offers financial support scheme in the form of zamalah and it is limited to qualified candidates. This zamalah scheme is managed by the Centre for Research and Instrumentation Management (CRIM). Please refer to the website: research.ukm.my.
