Sinopsis Kursus
Biologi I (PNAP0133)
Kursus ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan pengetahuan pelajar dalam Sains Biologi. Kursus ini meliputi pelbagai topik seperti berikut: Kimia yang memberi tumpuan kepada pemahaman tentang atom, molekul, ion, ikatan, air, karbohidrat, protein, lipid, asid nukleik dan tindak balas kimia dalam proses metabolik; Struktur & fungsi sel, komunikasi sel dan pergerakan merentasi membran; Respirasi sel dan penapaian; Fotosintesis dalam tumbuhan C3, C4 dan CAM; Struktur & fungsi tumbuhan termasuk pertumbuhan, perkembangan, pengangkutan, pembiakan, hormon dan tindak balas; Struktur & fungsi binatang termasuk termoregulasi, sistem pernafasan, sistem peredaran darah, sistem pencernaan, sistem saraf, sistem otot, sistem keimunan, sistem endokrin; Pembiakan dan perkembangan haiwan termasuk anatomi pembiakan, gametogenesis & kawalan hormon, perkembangan embrio dan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pertumbuhan; dan tingkah laku haiwan termasuk gerakan dan komunikasi. Pelajar akan dinilai dengan kuiz, tugasan, persembahan, laporan makmal, peperiksaan pertengahan semester dan akhir semester. Kaedah pengajaran termasuk kuliah kumpulan kecil, tutorial, eksperimen makmal, pembelajaran bebas dan pembelajaran berasaskan masalah.
Course Synopsis
Biology I (PNAP0133)
This course aims to enhance the students’ understanding and knowledge in Biological Sciences. The course covers various topics as follows: Chemistry focusing on understanding of atoms, molecules, ions, bonds, water, carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids and chemical reactions in metabolic processes; Cell structure & function, cell communication and movement across membranes; Cellular respiration and fermentation; Photosynthesis in C3, C4 and CAM plants ; Plant structure & function including growth, development, transport, reproduction, hormones and responses; Animal structure & function including thermoregulation, respiratory system, circulatory system, excretory system, digestive system, nervous system, muscular system, immune system, endocrine system; Animal reproduction and development including reproductive anatomy, gametogenesis & hormonal control, embryonic development and factors that influence development; and animal behavior including movement and communication. Students will be assessed by quizzes, assignments, presentations, lab reports, mid-semester and final semester examinations. Teaching methods include small group lecture, tutorial, laboratory experiments, independent learning and problem-based learning.

Biologi II (PNAP0213)
Kursus ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan pengetahuan pelajar dalam Sains Biologi. Kursus ini merangkumi pelbagai topik seperti berikut: Pembahagian sel termasuk mitosis, meiosis, kitaran hayat seksual dan pengawalan kitaran sel; Heriditi termasuk mono & dihibrid, epistasis, pleiotropi, pewarisan poligenik, terangkai-seks, X-inaktivasi, non disjunksi dan kecacatan genetik manusia; Genetik molekul dengan replikasi DNA, sintesis protein, mutasi, genetik molekul virus dan bakteria, pengawalan ekspresi gen dan DNA rekombinan; Evolusi termasuk bukti, pemilihan semula jadi, variasi, keseimbangan Hardy-Weinberg, spesiasi, pengasingan pembiakan; Kepelbagaian biologi dengan pengenalan domain dan lima Kingdom; dan Ekologi dengan populasi dan ekologi komuniti, ko-evolusi, sesaran, ekosistem dan kitaran biogeokimia. Pelajar akan dinilai dengan kuiz, tugasan, persembahan, laporan makmal, peperiksaan pertengahan dan peperiksaan akhir semester. Kaedah pengajaran termasuk kuliah kumpulan kecil, tutorial, eksperimen makmal, pembelajaran bebas, pembelajaran kelompok, perbincangan kumpulan kecil dan pembelajaran berasaskan masalah.

Biology II (PNAP0213)
This course aims to enhance the students’ understanding and knowledge in Biological Sciences. The course covers various topics as follows: Cell division including mitosis, meiosis, sexual life cycles and regulation of cell cycle; Heredity including mono & dihybrid, epistasis, pleiotropy, polygenic inheritance, sex-linked, X-inactivation, non-disjunction and human genetic defects; Molecular genetics with DNA replication, protein synthesis, mutations, molecular genetics of viruses and bacteria, regulation of gene expression and recombinant DNA; Evolution including evidence, natural selection, variations, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, speciation, reproductive isolation, the origin of life; Biological Diversity with the introduction of domains and the five kingdoms; and Ecology with population and community ecology, coevolution, succession, ecosystem and biogeochemical cycles. Students will be assessed by quizzes, assignments, presentations, lab reports, midsemester and final semester examinations. Teaching methods include small group lectures, tutorials, laboratory experiments, independent learning, cooperative learning, small group discussion and problem-based learning.
